I think the other thing these pictures show is don't put a drip rail on. The lighter green car looks like the top has been sliced above the quarter window where all the rest just flow like gl***.

Exactly what I wanted to say. I've seen several of those that really miss the mark in the quarter window area.

I have to agree with Rikster in that I have always thought that the quarter windows need to be extended a bit to look right on these chops.

And heres the re-do with special thanks to Rikster , I sent him some measured pics of the car and he designed the new shape , made a scale template in PDF and emailed it to me , I printed it and glued it to some thin cardboard for the template ...worked great and I couldnt be happier Thanks again Rik!!

  6. This should speak volumes of Smooth Customs' work...

Yes, he does know what he's doing and no, he doesn't mince his words.

Not that my opinion will matter, but I also think the rear window still isn't quite right, needs a sharper corner in the rear I think.

  7. I'm by no means a builder, but I will say what my eye prefers on these chops no matter if it's a short window or long window. It's best if the top arc of the window flows with the arc of the roof. The cars that hit on this have a better flow that carries the eye to the back of the car. The cars that have window lines that diverge from the roof line take the eyes in two different directions. That breaks the flow. Also, if there's a drip rail it better follow that arch or the roof as well. The Stewart '41 has it nailed.

Hello finkd,i am building a Ayala tribute car(Rikster approved), check out some of the pics on my page. Its a lot of work, sometimes work to fast and lose perspective.Take a break and hit it anew.Sort of competing with Koolkemp, but he is fast and has more time than i do.Here is one of my rear qtr window cuts, tell me what you think finkd.

I like your work on your car, but what I am trying to avoid is the small radious corner in the quarter window, i think a bigger roll looks better to my eye. thats why I made it a smaller window with a bigger radious in the rear corner to match the other window curves, so I'm keeping it. it looks right to me and the owner.

the smaller quarter window flows for my eye better too fink'd. Only thing that seems a bit odd is that one part of the quarter window thats just straight, it seems too harsh. I broke up it into 3 pieces and just filled the window area black. Check it...

Pictures don't do the '41 justice, it is very evil looking on person. It was kool to see
Mike Shay's Chopped Ford on the lift with the '41 Ford in progress and Shoe's chopped
fastback sitting in the same shop. Just a normal day in Jeff's shop.

    Happy Trails, Mick

    As is (only skirts modified)

And with slightly longer side windows, modified rear corners... better flowing shape on the top line of the side window and the drip rail... in my opinion.
The rear corners on the side window have a radius which is smaller than what you have now, but still looks close to the other side window corners and is about the same as the A-Pillar door window corner.
The side window is not as long as I would do them on my own car though.

Kool pictures Travis, Jeff's plan is to have the '41 on the road late this summer. It is going
to be kool watching it go down the road. Roy likes to go fast so he will be running a late
model Ford (FI) power with a six speed ******. Roy should be able to dig a hole. I guess
    Kustoms can have three pedals.

Opinions are like ****-holes.. everyone has one.. :) Hell, I can't even weld yet, so I
still get fascinated at how you can take 30 cutup pieces, weld them, grind them down,
and make it look like one solid piece.. Keep up the work, and keep posting so that I can
keep learning.. It's all a work in progress, and in the end, you just have to make
the customer happy.. not the folks on here.
