I would like to know the factory specs on my diff. it has the 270 poly with auto. It appears to be original. the driveshaft does not have typical u-joints.
I have removed all 10 bolts from the diff case, also the driveshaft however I cannot get the front case to come off? do I need to somehow remove the driveshafts first?

DUH ! yep pull the axles first and to do that you will have to pull the brake drums.

Drive shaft unbolts from the front and rear.. you will need a hub drum puller as well..

I am wondering what, exactly, you are trying to accomplish. Your ***le asks for information but you talk about dis***embly....

Yes, the drums will have to be removed and they can be a real PITA. If this is not a resto-project and if you need to spend money inside of the axle ***embly then you might consider replacing the axle with a later unit that is more 'user-friendly'.

It is a resto project. I am just trying to maintain the factory stuff that is working proper right now. i notice the bearings are in need of greasing badly, black and thick grease.
yes I am looking for dis***embly info.
But I was interested in knowing what the axle was referred to as from the factory.
I have undone everything except I can't find a puller for the rear axle yet. I can't find a puller that hooks up directly to the axle shaft threads.
I emptied the rear axle grease yesterday and it came out in the thickness if pavement on our street!
thanks for any info on the axle iden***y and help on removal.

I dont think there were many rear end options back then... it is a tapered axle rear end though.. and for the time , very strong.. I may have a manual here if you require more info.. I did PM you as well...

between The Old Car Manual Project, the Forward Look site and the Imperial site, you should find enough info to do the job. I'd really recommend a manual if you are going to keep at it, though. Check Amazon, EBay and Mopar sites for a real manual....

Perhaps I'm not reading correctly....but do you have the rear drums off and now trying to remove the axles? Or, are you still trying to pull the drums?
The axle should not require a 'puller' to remove unless, somehow, the bearing is frozen in the housing.

YEs, the drums are off already. IP cannot pull the axles out by hand however. I screwed the nut on the spindle and have pulled like heck and only accomplished breaking a sweat!!
