My ~1965 283 Chevy block is giving me some trouble with the rear oil pressure outlet in the top of the block.
The br*** fitting just will not budge loose.
I filed it square to fit a 1/4" socket end, and gently kept trying to get it loose. Also used WD40 on it. Been doing this for about four days now.
Well, I just came in and look what happened. Yep snapped off.....****
    Question:
There is another square fitting on the front of the block just above the timing cover.
Can I tap into that one for oil pressure???
I really don't want to have to drill out that darn snapped off br*** plug.
There also is another larger plug near the oil filter, but it has been ground smooth at some point...
    See pics below.
As always, thanks for any help...
    Cheers,
    Bob

A tapered screw extractor should get that out with no problems.......

  3. that front plug probably been in there since 1965 and may not come out any easier

The front plug will work if you get it out.

Lookon the side of the block above the oil filter...It may have a plug there..if it does you can tap into that spot for oil pressure also.

Use the one over the oil filter, one less thing to contend with as far as clutter on top of the engine!

I have to remove those stupid plugs all the time, to get the one out of the front I tap on the plug with a hammer, then beat a 12 point snap-on 5/16" socket and they usually come right out. As for the br*** thing, if it's a fitting, obviously you have to remove it. I never use an easy-out. Tricky Steve showed me the drill it out and beat in a torx socket trick, works every time (almost). The trick is to drill all the way through and to drill small enough that when you beat the torx into the hole, it has enough meat to cut grooves for traction. Good luck, some of them are a real pain!

    You 'Da Man...
Did that yesterday, and it came right out.
And yes the front one is cast, not br***!
    Thanks,
    Bob

I had the same problem with a motor that i bought. the plug behind the intake looked like someone had put vicegrip's on it chewed all up. I plan on taking what is left out when i rebuild it. In the meantime i plugged in just above where the oil filter screw's on. GOOD LUCK.......PINCHER
