Car looks great Shannon. Wish I could help you more than I have. I need to be able to tell the wife I am going coming over after work more often....
Don't worry about it. No big deal. It is getting done. I do wish I had a few more of me some days but she is gettin there.
Can you elaborate and take pics on how you're doing your headliner and trunk? I've got a pfaff 545 I'm going to use to do my interior, but I'm a real beginner on the sewing stuff. Its gotta be one of the most frustrating but neat things I've tried in a long time.
That is the SAME machine I have. When I get to it I will post pix. I may have to sell it before she gets completely done though. I have a large need for finances at the moment. Christmas comin. 4 kids. 5th on the way. You get the idea.
I hear ya. You gotta do what ya gotta do, there'll always be more sewing machines to buy. I had a singer 111W and got tired of fooling with it when I saw the pfaff on craigslist. So far so good, I absolutely love the machine. I just wish I were better/faster with it!
Amen to that! That's where my '56 F100 went and I don't regret it for a minute. I can always build another one, or buy a Prius.
One 8 year old, cute freckels, glasses, short red hair, tuff as nails, good at karate, and gets good grades. $50k OBO. HAHA! I would love to keep it, but I have so many more to build man! So many more.
I would GIVE you one of my 20 cars ( no joke really. 20 ) before I would allow that! Prius? Really? Damn. Waht is this world comin to!?
It ain't comin' to a Prius that's for damn sure! I actually hate the damn slow things. There's one in my neighborhood that I seem to get stuck behind often. Maybe if I offer to hitch a pair of turtles to it the p.o.s will go faster. Holy shit, 20 cars? I'd be in heaven, or divorced (or is that the same thing?)
Maybe!? HAHA! Not divorced. Not married. I have a girlfirend ( that is where the 5th on the way comes in... ) that has her own old cars. 64 galaxie 2 door hardtop. And a 64 galaxie wagon. 390. 4 barrel. c6. Tears a tire if it wants to. Flamethrowers. Dual exhaust. Real low. disc brakes up front now. She usually does her own work, but I have not been letting her since she is pregnant. Some things are to hard for her as well now. She is quite aways along. Due in a few weeks. Turtles? Or should you install a push bumper on yours?
lol Not sure that's a good idea. I drive 1978 F250 with a 460 in it. Might drive right over the top of the little p.o.s....hmmmm... Cool about your girlfriends car and doing her own work. Thats WAY better than a woman pissing and moaning about "your old cars". Glad my wife doesn't, in fact when I mentioned that I found a '57 F100, the first thing she said was "You should put your 460 in it!" Thats my girl!
Now that's what I am talkin about! To cool man. To cool. A little update on the car. I ma wetsandin and almost in the final stage of cleanup. I use 240 then 400 grit. I should be ready for base by late evening. I have to rehang the doors so I can get the scallops done so I might hold off till tomorrow to base/clear it. We shall see.
I should have typed " ran when parked " or " just needs a paint job " or even better " minor surface rust"
Has anyone ever tried to spray white base over white primer?! Damn it is hard to do. Good thing I have a whole gallon of white right now. About 10 more coats to do good hiding, and then onto the fun part, scallops!
Maybe a different shade of white? But even after the first couple of coats of white it would still be hard as hell to see again. Almost there on the white now. Had to blow the doors open to get some ventilation. To many fumes it wasn't flashing right. Getting anxious to tape off the scallops. Fukn flash times....
HERE IT IS! Well almost. I will be pullin her into the sun tomorrow. Letting the clear set overnight. She is not pefect. I am actually upset by a few things I have found wrong with it. As stated before, painters rule. What can go wrong will. Down to my air hose splitting and my seperator shooting oil all over the car in the middle of base coat. Then, noticing that it was taking forever to get coverage cuz my primer was so damn thin. Bearly had enough to remove some of the sand scratches it had in it. Noticed a few spots tha were missed during the glaze coat. Which, would not have been even seen if it wasn't for the damn primer. The wind kicked up just after I layed down the first layer of clear, throwing dirt all over it. Did it again after the 4th coat. Now I have dirt all over a white paint job. Great. Easily noticeable. I also learned not to listen to the lady at the counter at the paint shop. Instead talk to the dude in the wheel chair. She sold me some real shit cuz she though it was what I wanted. I even asked. Anyway. Sorry bout the rant. Here it is....
Even when you have so many problems painting a car there is just a certain type of satisfaction knowing you put the time and effort into doing it all yourself. Good Job!! Cant wait to see it finished.
Still pissed at myself. What was going to be a car to sell for a decent profit, has turned into a decent car to keep around for a bit. Definitely not a show winner by any means. Very disapointed. There are things that were outside my control, like money, but here she is.
Well knowing what you started with, I think you did a great job. Sweet little car..Plus I got some good ideas for mine.....
I have yet to see it up close, but it looks good from this side of the screen. I have painted 5 cars so far, A LOT can happen. Did I ever tell you what happens to clear if you let it sit overnight outside and fog rolls in that night?? HAHA
I think it looks really nice from here! From my experience, no car project I have done ever makes money so I don't keep tabs anymore... As long as you can strap an infant seat in the back, I don't know why you should be upset that you have to keep it and drive it! Well done.
