Hey guy's, just got sent some awesome picture's! Enjoy!

Your looking at the 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 Convertible Cocept Car, which from I understand is the only one in existence. There was 2 produced and maybe an unconfirmed 3rd. It was at the 1954 Motorama as a "Dream Car." It sold at auction in Arizona for, wait for it, $3,240,000. And now resides in Gateway Colorado Automobile Museum. This was all the info I got, so hopefully someone knows more of the history.

    Jeff.

  2. i know the guy that restored that car , he showed me a lot of in progress pictures. the story he told me about it did not match up well with the story that was told at the auction

    designed by Henry Earl....

I watched the BJ auction live... I remember the guy biding on it had a red ferrari shirt on and told the other bidder " I dont care how much you bid on this car, I'm going to win it"... I remember that clear as day.

If the bidder has the balls to sit in the car he is bidding on with smile from ear to ear, I wouldn't bid against him.

I believe the name is HARLEY EARL, GM's head designer during that era. Some of the most beautiful desdigns GM ever came up with was during his watch.

ALL concept cars are "rare". This has been posted before.

It is a Corvette-based concept car. There is another Corvette-based concept car called the "Biscayne" and had headlights that were later used in modifyed form as taillight on the 56/7 Vettes.

I remember it at G.G. Puyallup too. I knew what it was, but couldn't believe I was seeing it. And there was NO crowd around it, just sitting by itself.

Not just a member, but also the President. The car is absolutely beautiful. Just not $3,000,000+ beautiful. It's a shame they never produced them.
I remember seeing pictures of a 2 seat Pontiac sports car a while ago from back in the 60's and IIRC it wasn't built because the Chevy division was crying that it would steal some of the Corvette's thunder.

Nope. No more rare than any other one-off concept car of which there have been many hundreds.

Wouldn't you think that the very first car, or at least the very oldest surviving car, would be the rarest? Gary

  20. A gentleman in Chicago named Joe Bortz, has made it his mission to find
and rescue the "dream cars" built by the auto makers. Fortunately, some
salvage yards where the cars were sent, didn't go ahead and crush them.
And some were given to employees by management, after they agreed to
stash the car for 25 years.

Here's a link to a Hemmings Motor News article about him..........
there are other items, just google his name. http://www.hemmings.com/hcc/stories/2006/07/01/hmn_feature22.html

That baby is super bad ***, I also saw the live bidding and couldn't believe it. Craig Jackson was wearing a big-*** smile, these cats have bult a huge empire. That's a full months pay for me so I didn't jump in on the phone and bid on it--dreaming again. ~Sololobo~

Does it run/drive? What is the powerplant? A lot of the concept cars were just rolling works of art and not drivable cars. A complete car is much more valuable IMHO! (not 3.2M valuable though...)

John Hendricks, Discovery Channel founder, bought the car for his museum in Gateway CO. Unlike most car museums that are nothing more than warehouses, this one was built as a car museum and it shows. There is a special room that houses this car and the only negative is the damn loop of the B-J auction that is playing on a flat screen!
