My mail man always takes care not to bend my copy which I appreciate. The nearest bookstore that carries RJ is 100 miles. I only wish I had started subscribing with the first issue.

Received my copy on tuesday 10-19. Really taking my time reading it. I go for the page by page method. Lasts longer that way.

I heard the other day that he has somewhere around 80 grand into just the Ardun, and the oil pump took a shit, so he had to re-build the engine again...ouch:eek:

Hey guys, blame the USPO for the delivery lag. I subscribe to about 20 magazines etc and rarely get them before the newstand has them on the rack. This stuff goes out at the same time but the fact that the magazines go second or third class means that they go on the back burner at the post office. As stated the Aussies probably get their quickly because theirs come directly from the printer in Hong Kong and don't have to make the trip across the Pacific.
I sometime get two National Dragsters together and Street Rodder is always on the stand before I get it in the mail. As for customer service at TRJ, I have never had any problems despite the "cottage industry" nature of the business.
It will be interesting to see how Street Rodder's new high end publication compares to TRJ considering that the price is in the same league.

  20. glad i'm hearing this...i thought of subscribing but i live nearby the RJ so i probably wouldn't see mine forever. Don't feel like going through another Garage Magazine drama....Think i'll just go to Barnes and Noble, besides, while i'm there i can read Quilting magazine too

Not likely …. Wouldn’t they (TRJ) respond and say this? …BTW They have never said a word about WHY they don’t deliver to subscribers first.

Quote from TRJ issue # one
“The Rodders Journal will not be available on news stands. It will be available by subscription and through our dealers-mostly hot rod shops.”

  22. It's not very likely that the USPS delays them, especially with the low volume they have these days. Periodicals (second class) has a 24 hour window to be processed once arriving at each facility and Standard (third class/bulk business mail) has a 48 hour window in the mail service distribution chain so typically delivery is made within a week or less this type of mail. I very much doubt that any carrier is reading your magazines either, as this is a firing offense and there aren't more than a handful of car guys there anyway. The supervisors they have these days don't even want the carriers talking to each other as they "case" the mail for delivery so the carriers can't wait to hit the street.

Here's my thought, though it has probably been expressed before-as a subscriber, they KNOW you want, and will wait for the new issue, while a "New" issue is only new for a while at the newsstand where space is competitive and there is a very narrow window for sales. So the emphasis is to get the 'maybe I'll buy it if I see it" issues out first and then take care of the ones you know you have already sold.

It's kind of like why renewal subscription rat are usually higher than the new subscriptions-which drives me nuts. Often though, you can talk them into giving you the better rate.

  24. I've heard of this publication only because of guys on here, but I don't have clue really what his magazine is about or why it is so popular. Can someone enlighten me on why it is so popular, how often it is printed, and what the price is for one?

If you add up a series of 48 hour windows and multiple transitions through different hubs it does not take long for stuff to arrive "late". As I noted in my first post I sometimes get two issues of National Dragster (they are mailed every week on the same day) on the same day and sometimes even out of sequence.
I don't know how Steve, Geoff and co feed TRJ into the mail system but I don't think that there is some sort of conspiracy to get them onto the stands while holding back the subscriber copies--it is just the logistics.
When I subscribed to Autoweek it often took up to two weeks for it to get from Detroit to Indy and it regularly arrived out of sequence. And this is a publication that has an "actual" cover date (and time sensitive material label), not something 2 or more months into the future like the majority of auto magazines. When the folks at Autoweek tried to find out why I was not getting it when I should the USPO said that they could not track it due to the third class/bulk designation.

If you have a local book store, stop by and check out an issue... I think then you'll understand.

That would be impossible to do anyway. One thing TRJ does really well is to protect their magazine; the issues go out in a sealed cardboard envelope and a sealed plastic bag inside that.

Got mine delivered to my front door earlier this past week. Awesome edition!:)

The mail delivery is a strange duck. I have a bud in Reno, NV. His mail takes less time to get here (Gilbert, AZ), than mine does to get to him. Sometimes days longer. Same distance different direction. Go Figure.

    Have A Great Weekend!
