I just sold a 66 Cadillac 429 engine with the Turbo 400 ****** to a guy who is putting it in a 62 Lark. He said that was a fairly common swap back in the day out west.
In 1957, I put a 259 Studebaker in my 36 ford coupe, it would outrun all of the 56 Chevys, but the HP 57's were to fast. But it was a respectful machine for a 16 year old.
Hot Rod magazine pulled a streetable/user friendly 390 hp from an AMC 360 a few yrs back. Nothin radical either. At least keep it in the family, ya know. A 343 with a small cam and a 4 bbl would run forever and still be fun!
AMC and Studebaker have nothing to do with each other and never did. Back to the question. I have a 383 small block Chevy in mine. 4 speed. nine inch. all the belly ****on stuff. My friend Bill Carlson has a factory supercharged 289 in his and from a 60mph punch off on the freeway they are very much the same. Don't know how I would do from a standing stop but for top end that thing of Bills is OK.
I had a 63 Hawk GT about 25 years ago that had a 4 bll. 289 and a T-10 behind it. At the same time I also had a 64 Vette that had a 365 horse 327 and T10. I drove the Stude and my brother drove the Vette goofing around one day we informally raced back home. The Stude had no problem keeping up with the Vette and in some cases p***ing it for short distances. If I were you I would definetly go through the Stude mill and keep it. I always thought they were a pretty stout motor. Michael
I had a 327/th350 in my '62 Lark. It was a rocket! By the way, I have some '62 Lark parts in the 'cl***ified section'.
A girl I know here in Tampa has a '59 Lark with a 360 Mopar in it. Once we got all the hacked up **** fixed it fits in good and runs like stink.
I'm with keeping the Stude motor. I run a Stude 289 in my model A with a 4sp and am building another for my FED.
I found out thanks to noticing the most recent tabs, that it has been in storage since 1976. The body damage that I was able to see was very minimal. It is still in storage for two more weeks. My buddy was having difficulty with his trailer this weekend. Very anxious to get this thing home and cleaned up a bit!
Sounds like we may get to move it this upcoming weekend after all. Going to be getting some new tires to roll it around on. Should make pushing a whole lot easier!
Its coming home finally!!! Scheduled the trailer and everything for June 25th! This long saga is finally getting some progress made!
Well it is officially a roller. Got the back tires put on. They are a smaller size than the front... it makes it look there is air bags in the back! haha Peek-A-Boo! Rear-End left a puddle. Only major rust that I found on today's inspection Rear fender damage Someone climbed on the roof a few years ago when putting the stuff in storage Lifted up the rubber floor mat to check the pans Hood Damage Tailgate & Bumper damage: She is ready for her trip Did run in to a problem when I was out there, I noticed that the drivers side door does not latch. Any one have an idea on how to fix this? Also, the hood release hasnt been working the past few times that I have been out there. This time I sprayed a little bit of WD-40 on it and pulled it back and forth a bit (read: gave it hell) and finally got it to release! BONUS. (its the little battles right?) I decided that while I was there this morning that I would try to move her a bit. With the new tires on the back she rolled with ease, I barely needed to push! Once its home, I will probably start a Project thread.
