A clean and well organized work space is key....

Can't build a car if you can't find all the parts.

Guys, Sorry about the messy garage. Comes from remodelling the house. I would be putting most of this stuff in my truck box but door is broken (won't roll up). Another project - build new truck box door.

Wish I were closer to help, but I like the engine choice. That makes it cool!

Dave- Pack all that stuff up and send it up here! I'm sure there are a few guys that would give me a hand doing the fab work for you.

For those of you that don't know Dave he is truly a great guy. He is always there to offer a hand (no matter the lack of free time he has) and works hard to bring fellow hot rodders together for events, etc. He is one of the few HAMB guys from SoCal that I met and still keep in touch with. If there is anybody out there in SoCal that can give him a hand with his project I know he would extremely grateful and you would be helping out someone that is well deserving.

that body was hand built? pretty nice- what did he get for the bodies, do you know?

  11. Not hard at all. it is alrerady going in the right direction its just a matter of extending the shaft and pointing the pitman arm down. The Raven used the same box and didn't even extend the shaft for his '27 he just made a pitman arm that had a jog in it.

The box is aluminum, its 4.5 turns lock to lock which makes it great for a light car with little elbow room. I believe it to be from a '71 or 2 Volvo as the tag on it is dated 3/71. I got this one in a trade.

I can't imagine that they are that hard to come by the Raven saw mine on a shelf and had one of his own a week later.

If you capture one ship it to me, tell me how far it needs to stick out and I'll extend it for you, if you want.

Way over rated I clean mine at least once a year its always a mess and the only time I can't find what I'm looking for is right after I clean it. Of course the rest of the time it takes a system to find anything. I always look where whatever it is wouldn't be in a thousand years. :D

Eric, Thanks for all the swell comments. I sure will try to live up to all you said. Sure would be neat to come to your area to get the Modified up on all four. If it happened I sure would be owing you guys something in return.
    Stay in touch.

I may have something you can use.

I've got a header for a 2.3 Pinto that I'm going to change so it will fit the German 2000cc version.

So I'll have to cut the header flange off.

Dont know when I'll do this ( could be a month or two ), but the flange is yours if you pay for shipping.

Hey 41 Dave. Are there any car clubs/groups in your part of town? Many times they can be a good source for some labor. I belong to an informal group locally, (no meetings/dues/women), that meet at a different guys garage every Thursday night. We have someone with every talent you could want in the group and all are ready and willing to help. Maybe if there isn't something like that you could get one started. Sounds like you already have the makings with the a garage, good food and drinks.

    Good luck.

Rramjet, There are several local clubs. The local Hot Rod Club is very established and has mostly older members. They are busy with their own projects and club functions. I don't belong to any of the clubs so this is probably not an option for me.
I also tried our HAMB social group with the usual response - none . . . . I will keep looking and hope to find someone who wants to get involved.

  17. there was a thread started the other week on these engines. sorry i dont have a link, but im sure it will come up if you do a search. lots of info and well worth checking out.
if you have no luck finding a steering box, an Australian Holden (GM) one works well and is easily reversed. maybe an aussie hamber can help with this?

Not sure how to say "Hi!' to someone from New Zealand. Thanks for the info. On the steering box is there any benefits from the steering box ?
