Ok, here is where I can use the wisdom of my elders again. I am using a 2.3/t-5 drive train out of a 92 mustang in my 27 roadster. It will be using a ranger cam with roller conversion, and the esslinger down draft intake with 44IDFs. My questions is this. Is it possible to utilyze the stock DIS ignition system out of the mustang, so I can keep the dual plug set up, and... cleaner with no distributor? I am sumwhat familiar with the EEC systems in fords. If I can use it, does anyone have a detailed wiring diagram what what pins and wires would need to be used? Thanks Guys.
Somebody here knows the answer. But it is so off topic it does not fit. Truth hurts The good folks at teh Rodders Roundtable will know your answer.
there is a whole thread dedicated to your questions ..im using the same mill in my 29 coupester ...do a search and you will find it... this is what you wanna do a search on THE H.A.M.B. > General Discussion > Hokey *** Message Board Technical Ford’s 2.0/2.3/2.5 litre engine family guide
Accually already read that one, but it didn't cover if I can use a DIS system stad alone. It did say you can go to a ford duraspark....bla....
unless you use the eec, no. Go to www.turboford.net and search there. More info on 2.3's than you can ever read.
MSD might have a dis system for a 2.3, but I don't think it's worth the effort, or the $$$$. Hey lorodz, did you get the email with the pics of the round-port Ranger 2bbl intake I sent you a week or so ago?
Yes Sir, I am sure they do. I was just curious if anyone has ever ran the stock EEC system. Its not big deal for me to pull pins and eliminate wires, and would save me a ton of money. Someone has got to have done this. Or does anyone at least have a pin map?
you cannot use the DIS system as a stand alone it needs the ecm for the timing map, there was a company called electromotive that delt in DIS set ups...also aftermarket will have a lot less wiring.
I know you have to use the ECM... Thats why I said I can move pins.... A lot less wiring is debatable. I appreciate you input, but Im not looking for reasons it cant be done. Stand alone refers to the se of the ignition system outside of its original vehicle.
electromotive is the set up that esslinger sells. I already knew about them. But dont want to drop $900.00 on something that is already in the car is a slightly different form.
I have two '89 Ford tech books and after a quick look I've found a 2.3L EFI truck DIS wiring schematic. It has other DIS info, too. I can scan stuff, and/or I'll probably give them to you if you pay for shipping.
never realized how simple the swap was.. here it is. But Now does anyone have a wiring shcematic of this set up, preferable pics of you when you did it... LOL.. http://rothfam.com/svo/reference/DIS.htm
JTW Here's a thread I started for the Ford 2.3, lot's of info, good reading also. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=317117
