Lookee what i just got home... it is a flip top all gl*** 70 opel gt "funny car" for lack of a better word. 1500 lb injected sbc, glide race car. prolly ran comp eliminator in the early 70's. was the blue mule in lawton in those days and later campaigned by gary smith out of st louis okla. ran at tulsa, okla city and ardmore. ran 8.50s then... i have the original injectors just back from a complete restoration from hilborn and have a certificate of purchase on them from 1960 how cool. look for this car to run with the central state g***er ***oc next year ... does anyone have any pics of this fom the day ?
Love those old flip body Opel's. Few survived the encounters with the guardrail due to the very short wheelbase.
I run a 70 opel gt, its a tube ch***is car nothin like that but gotta tell ya its one fun ride. Im running around 10.30s at 131 mph. The previous owner Jim Zane set 7 national records with a v6 in the low 9s. Hope ya get it done would like to see the progress along the way. Dave
;ookin forward to getting it back racing ... ..we willrun mostly 1/8th mile with it and should be in the high 5 second area. it is now 100 inch w.b.
thanks, but it needs some fibergl*** repair done to it to race again, so will have to be redone ...but i will do a very nostalgia type funny car paint job on it..
That might just be the coolest thing I've ever seen... it is! It is the coolest thing I've ever seen! I can't wait to see it a runner! Sam
interesting tidbit, the man I bought this from is a very good street rod builder and long time drag racer. he ran this car in early eighties and then sold it to a man up the road from his place in rural okla. fast forward to now and he was driving and saw it going down the street on a trailer, followed it to its destination and asked the man what was up. it was exactly like he sold it so many yrs ago. and bought it back, seems the guy had parked it in barn and just recently got a divorce and wife said git it outa here. now i own it . the eng was bad and will all be new soon. couple more pics of it here at my shop
Great find! I remember seeing one at Englishtown, it was from Canada and hauled there inside a Greyhound bus. Thing had a door on the side, and the roof opened up I believe, a crane then picked the car up and pulled it inside, always thought that was neat.
Wow that is one cool Opel. I have a couple of stock ones and have always liked the body lines. I dont remimber it from the dragstrip in lawton but I may not be old enough.
looks awsome!!!!before i did the kadett i had 3 gts in the yard and was looking to build one as a g***er.still would like to build one but i want it to be fibergl*** and longer than stock{JUST LIKE YOURS!!!!!DAMIT}good luck, and keep us informed.
Darn it, you're a lucky man. Good luck with the build up. The contingency stickers doesn't look that old, when did it see action last time?
COOL find, the short wheelbase makes for a wilder ride. I allways thought they looked like a mini corvette.
