I have a pair of California black plates that need restoration. One is pretty straight but the other is banged up and needs some metal working. Both need repainting. Is there a place I can bring them to in SoCal? Thx.
There is (or at least was) a guy in Bend Oregon that does exact restorations on license plates. Do a Google search. - EM
There is a license plate guy at the LB and probably Pomona swap that will restore them, but he is not cheap.
what Dave said... Do a search here on the HAMB. There are a few tech articles on painting then numbers if I remember correctly.
Theres a guy that advertises on Craiglist in SoCal, heres a link. http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pts/1956568223.html
Amazing what you find in the searchj, in fact lookie here, a thread on the subject from Friday! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=512686&highlight=plates+paint
My buddy Kim at Body Shop Supplies here in Lemon Grove has a good yellow mix that he makes for Cali plates. http://www.bodyshop-supplies.com - Joe
FWIW, I searched this site and read all the HAMB vendors. All I could find were some threads showing how to do it yourself. I'm too old and too cranky to try it myself -- plus I just don't have the time. Thanks to anyone who has responded with a referral ... or will respond.
a couple of the guys giving tips on how to do 'em yourself will do 'em for you. craigslist has a guy from Huntington Beach selling plates he restored- do more searching.
Repops here, they do the Movie studios stuff: http://www.licenseplates.tv/replica-california-license-plates-from-1963-to-1968.html
John, you do license plates? Funny, I remember reading about your shop in Az. You did the reverse Calif exodus.
Doe's anyone have experience with running a repop plate? I too need my 1963 black plates restored, but could I have a couple of yellow 1959 repop plates made up with my license plate number and run them on the car? I know it would not be legal, but would it work?
