In order for something like this to happen, all states would have to adopt it at the same time. Otherwise, if a person from a NON gps tax state would go to a gps tax state, he wouldn't be able to fill up at the pumps.

It sounds very confusing to me.

Only the government would piss and moan about fuel efficient vehicles.
    Jeez.

    Also...

How would a person fill up a gas can??

Would you get taxed for mileage on your ****ing lawn mower???

The world is run by dumb***es for sure.

The way I read this was going to happen is first lower the tax on gas, which is actually a use tax, the more you use the more you pay. Then tax on miles driven. That way Arnold, driving his Hummer getting say 4 MPG, will pay the same tax per year as the hybrid getting 60 MPG if they drive the same number of miles per year. But first ALL cars have to have a GPS system installed so the Govt. can track your movements. It's for your own good

Either we all stand up to the government or we all go down. This has nothing to do with democrats or republicans. Its the entrenched government employees

They'd do it the same way that they did seat belts and the drinking age. Hole back Federal Highway Funds until everyone complies... *******s...

  14. key words in the story....MAY BE CONSIDERING.

lets not jump the gun here my orewllian chicken littles.

at my place of employ (civic municipality) we already use the VIT system on all of our fleet and police vehicles. very nicely flawed system.

    why would it NEVER happen???

because you would NEVER get all californian (not even a wide minority) drivers to vote in favor of a bill which would require them to pay for equipment, installation and calibration, nor would you get all independent gasoline dealers to install and maintain the hard and software necessary to make the system functional.

its a silly leftist commie bad idea. wont happen.

this has NOTHING to do with racists, religious or politics. This is OUR CARS!

  16. It's very much political. Look who runs our country. What the hell do you think they did before they got voted in. (how that happened I'll never understand) However it's still very much ON topic.

stranger things have happened, at least IN CA...especially when you consider CA's voting Jekyll & Hyde act...with all the teeny bopper celebrity endorsments for "cleaner cars" and stricter guidelines being created every day (in CA) for things like pollutants, road repairs, etc., it does not seem like this is something that can be dismissed...and remember, at one point end user gas stations also didn't want to pay & replace old gas pumps that leaked gas fumes into the air, but with a little court order, you either did it or you found a new business to own...

    i'm with rusty1....

Guess I better get the Mercury on the road an enjoy it now while it's still "cheap".

I remember gasping when gas went to over a buck a gallon...and that wasn't too long ago... now we're all "trained" to gasp when it dips below $1.85. They're training us to live with things...GPS will become the norm in a few years, you watch. It will be standard equipment on all cars, and you'll face jail time if you get rid of it...or it will be tied into your car in some way so you can't run without it...

It's funny...they push fuel efficient cars on one end, then say, oh, geeze, we're losing money by doing this, so let's penalize them...

Well, I guess I'll just run a magneto. That should fix that pesky GPS gizmo.

Come on now people! Do you really think all those cl***ic car owners, and the businesses that support them are going to let this happen?

Besides the "traditional" hot rodders, there's all the street/hot/custom/rat/stupid rodders, musclecar enthuisiasts, the vintage "foreign" car buffs, all kinds of "car people" who would NEVER let someone put **** like this on their cars! Never!

With 80 billion old Mustangs, and an equal amount of Chevelles, Camaros, Novas, Mopars, vintage Military Vehicles, Jaguars, Austin Healeys..... NOT ONE would let this happen.

    Nada. Nope.

Don't get me wrong, I love america, but our current country is so far away from what our founding fathers envisioned that it makes me sick.
