Kirk, Appreciate the heads up. Could you elaborate on why they decided to pull the plug on the Beech Bend event. With the number of people that attended Saturday it hard to believe it was from lack of interest or low attendance numbers. I try to make the Nashville event but personally prefered the Beech Bend venue. Was the Nashville event as large as Beech Bends as far as the total crowd? Thanks again.

Hey KIRK...sorry to hear that the OC show is gone...kinda got the feeling that it would be around with the low turnout and the **** with the sale....but, 2 Del Mar shows!! whoo hooo!!

Bowliing green gone. well I could see the writing on the wall anyway. At least NHRA will be there. Always loved Beech Bend Raceway. Just not enough flatheads. Guess I'll have to build one.

  4. I'd like to see a GoodGuys hot rod show in the Boston/greater Boston area. Although Rhinebeck is only 4 hours away it just doesn't get it done for me.

I haven't been told this directly from GoodGuys but one of the reasons they are not here is the lack of a viable facility.

    Not necessarily true...

Cool. I'll present them to the group. Thanks!

  8. New England Dragway is my first choice. It has the room and it is nice facility. It's 60 miles north of Boston, about the same as NYC to Rhinebeck. Joe Lombardo is the General Manager. He's at 603 679 8001.

I stand to benefit no dollars from an event like this at New England Dragway, I've spent a lot of time there and the place is dear to my heart and I think a GoodGuys event there would be a smash.

    Thank you,

    Don Roberts

Never heard no one mention Talladega(the world's fastest stock car track). Get those autocross cars out there on the dirt track next door. That would be cool just to drink beer and watch them rub off that Alabama clay all night to get the trophies on Sunday

I brought up Talladega to the group about five years ago. There's not enough population to pull spectators from I don;t think.

  11. At the last GG Merced Ca. show I remember Gary thanking the crowd and saying "see ya all next year" but when the schedule came out Merced was gone! We were really disappointed, I mean Merced was like the second show that the GG ever did, but it was all about bottom line, since then the Chamber has tried real hard to keep a showing going but with little success....seems the GG made the right business decision for them, there is a reason Meadors has made a fortune with his shows and is the biggest promoter in the world... we may get mad and question the choices but hard to argue with their succe$$. Thanks for putting this up so soon, see you in P-Town

    well.50 miles from b'ham. 100 from huntsville,100 from atlanta
if you could do it in the spring,NOT in the heat of summer or fall, ya gotta compete with high school football ,friday night, college on saturday. its really hard to compete with those here in the south. a local guy has started putting on a swap/show there in late feb and has really taken off. and you would have room for the auto-cross. jus sayin

I'd love to go there for an event. I went years ago for a visit and the facility was really nice.

Will you be taking the Legion Special to the Scottsdale or Del Mar show?

Possibly the early Scottsdale in 2011, and pretty likely Del Mar

HA Ha - Like GoodGuys was ever about Traditional! They're a little more well rounded than that. 15 events with cone racing is Killer!

Phil, my good friend, I will miss the OC event. In fact I think this really ****S!
Too many shows there? There's just the Great Labor Day Cruise and then a couple weeks later Crusin for a Cure, the worlds largest one day show that has become way too much late model stuff for me - but at least for a good cause, Prostate Cancer research. Certainly the other 11 months of the year can handle an event.

it seems that this event suffered form the same fate as many things in So Cal end up suffering - there is so may different things to do in Sol Cal on any given weekend that it is a promoters nightmare. I'm still sorry to hear that this one wasn't given another chance.

As for the wisdom of Thanksgiving weekend at Del Mar, I have to agree that could be tough - I can see Hotels rooms going up in price as I write this  Not to mention families with other things planned for that weekend. I hope that works out, and will most likely be there, but I think it will be motorhome time.

Kirk, I got the call from Heather at work earlier letting me know that the model and pedal car contest will be back at Indy with the new venue.

I'll call her back tomorrow and let her know that I'll be glad to run it again. (I'm the guy that took over after the year of the ****storm)

Glad to see it back. It will be different, but we'll make it fun for the participants, and quiet for those of you with bigger fish to fry.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a Hotel in Des Moines? PM me if you do. Now's the time to reserve, otherwise it's back to the Motel 6 clear across town.
