What parts? Regular service parts are kind of pricey but all seem to be available. Virtually no sheetmetal available for them (nor is there any for the Newport). Trim parts are around but you'll pay if the condition is good. I know a windshield gasket for a '52 is like $220 and a new windshield is about $600, plus they're a bitch to install (learned that on my dad's car) so those kind of things are important to keep in mind. What parts is it going to need? That's the real question. "parts" is WAY too vague to give a good answer to.
I haven't actually checked out the car in person, so all I'm going on is owner description and a few pictures. It seems solid. The pics are missing the grille teeth, and I don't know what the interior looks like. Here's what the owner said, and some pics of both cars.
Try Buick Bombsight or Buick Club of America. You can get everything you need to fix it fairly cheap, if you use Craigslist. Investigate engine and trans thoroughly for any leaks, hard to fix ($$$$). The split windshield means it's a lower end model, not worth much, never will be, so don't put much in it, just enjoy it while you have it.
most of the mechanical parts can be gotten brake parts are still available locally if you look hard enough try looking at the website called rock auto they have almost all you will ever want cheap
so heres my insite since i own one, 1. great car ride like a dream (but so does the newports (had two)) 2. mechanic parts are not to hard to get. 3. rock auto has the brake parts but dont order the brake shoes the are a 1 1/2 to wide. 4. the fact it still has the straight 8 and not a fu*&ing 350-350 swap like all the others out there is great. if you like the car id get it but your newport looks in better condition ALSO make shure he has the teeth they can be a bitch to find
Hi! Kanter has some parts: http://www.kanter.com/ Here mutch good info on buicks http://www.teambuick.com/
also the teeth are numbered (all 9 are different), the bumper guards are hard to get on the front and the license plate light/holder are hard to find clean. NOTHING is really repo'd for those. the "special" badges are gone and both front hood plastic and trunk plastic are REAL hard to find. lastly it's a torque tube, make sure it all works.
Buick Club of America would be a good place to look. Also Hemmings Motor News will have several Buick parts dealers advertizing.Grill parts same for all models. I believe bumpers are also the same. NOS sheetmetal is available but pricey.Mechanical parts are available but you will have to get your own shocks rebuilt. In have only seen a couple of NOS front shocks in 30+years.
Right on..thanks for sharing this ...I'm also going to look at a 50 that apparently is in running road worthy condition..what about the torque tube should I be looking/listening for?
my 49 Buick has a dynaflow trans that had a bad leak at the torqueball seal so tranny fluid ran down the torque tube and filled the read end. you might want to check the rear end to see if any trans fluid is in there. if, so you neeed to fix the seal and it can be tricky
