hello all. i have not been on here for a while . just heeling up from recent hip replacement (what a *****) . im going back to work tuesday , surgery was 2 weeks ago and feeling pretty good ( i know , whats this have to do with hot rods?) . during my daily walks for rehab , every day at least 2 times a day , i open the garage door to stare at the 29 , then walk around it , stare some more , then close the door (****-****-****) the doc says i cant bent past 90 degrees at the waist or move the leg past this , this means no more rides this season (unless we have a nice indian summer) . i know , that is a really minor ***** , but a nice ride in the fall air would do a body good . i have tried to see if i can find a way to crawl in from the ground but the wife is keeping real close eye on the stupid **** im trying to do "aint happinin you dumb ****" . i never thought i would miss driving this thing so much , but i should consider myself very fortunate to only have this small set back and be thankfull to my otherwise pretty good health . god bless all of you that have to deal with a lot more than what i went through , and to realize those of you with a **** load more serious concerns than this , yet you still get out there and enjoy this hot rodding lifestyle ! well , its time so sign off , the old lady is in bed , maybee 1 more trip to the garage ( i wonder if i sat on my *** on the ground , and slid backwards and up into the seat ............?) todd
Glad to hear that the hip is working out for you . Yes I guess it's a ***** being home and can't drive your hot rod ! Now the wife can't be home all the time , right ? So when she's not around , try to get into the seat . If you start to hurt then just stop and go no more ! Hey it's as easy as that ! Now if you have a clutch then forget it ! You aren't going to make that one happen at all . We usually have a few warmer days around Christmas and in February so you can wait till then but if it was me I know what I would be doing when the wife is at work ! Just get well and enjoy the car another day ! It will be there when the time comes along ! Retro Jim
dont be stupid i had both of my hips replaced 7 years ago. let it heal the car will wait for you, screw something up now and suffer for the rest of your life.
I say wait. Do you want to do it again? I had to go through that after back surgery and it drove me crazy.
Hey, at least you have a cool ride to look forward to driving again! Hang in there, and heal properly.... Good luck...
My dad had his hip replaced a couple of years ago, you will be in that car before you know it!! Don't rush it, it will be worth the wait.
During the healing process one of the things happening is an increase in the "installation's" strength. It doesn't make sense to interfere with that. You aren't getting over on anyone by taking chances with your recovery. A little waiting is a small price to pay. Not that many years ago, before replacements were possible, you would have been using a cane, crutches, walker, or wheel chair, and the hip would have just continued to get worse.
I've said it a zillion times, if I was single I'd be DEAD by now, the ball and chain keeps me alive. And all you need is to make it into the driver's seat and not be able to get out... Bob
Listen, if it makes you feel any better, I'll come up there and drive the damn thing past the front window multiple times while you sit in that recliner and recuperate. Otherwise just take it easy, heal properly, and look forward to driving the piss out of it next summer. Best of luck with your recovery...Don.
2x! Take your time and heal up first. Some things in life **** so much you'd hate to do 'em twice I know what your going through. My dad lives with me now. On his left leg he has: a bionic knee and hip plus a drop foot from a pinched nerve. Solution: Pull the original 4 speed from his chevelle and plunk a th700 in it's place. LOL just yesterday he told me how it went sideways on him trying to get out into traffic from the post office.
Todd, you need to host a HAMB get-together at your garage. Post it on here, invite everybody over for dogs and beer, and let loose. I may even try to make it in my '37 Plymouth. No, I'm not inviting myself, I'm not even sure where Hermitage is, but I think it is where the flag display is?
boo-whooo , do what your wife tells you to . That hot rod ain't going no place , your caring wife will make damn sure of that . heal fast - heal good.
Wait now and get healed up, car will still be waiting. If you rush it now you may have to do it all over again which would be a whole lot less seat time later.
How upset will she be if you call her from Main St and tell her you've gotten stuck and cannot depress the clutch due to pain? Maybe she'll send a tow truck...the next day....ambulance....a little sooner. Do NOT tick off such a sweet darlin' wife. She likes your hotrod...she LOVES you....give yourself a break and your marriage also. You'll be back in the saddle soon - the wait will be worth it. You try it early, and she won't be as excited for you when you're REALLY ready to drive. dj
The advice seems unanimous to take care of yourself and heal up properly before you try to drive the A again. You 'll get there in time. I know I'm headed for the same thing myself one of these days with a left leg that is 1 1/2" shorter than the right (I have a choice of being 6 3 1/2" or 6' 5" depending on which leg I shift my weight to) and a left hip that bothers me a lot. They tried to talk my father into a hip replacement when he was about 80, his excuse for not having it done was that he was so old they couldn't get the parts.
OK . 3 days since my last post . thanks to you guys that reponded ! it was an inspiration to me . i no longer have the burning desire to get in and drive it--now i just start it up and listen to PIPES . paula seems fine with this ... at least for now (your gonna wake the neighbors dumb ***) plus the weather ****s . im going to follow the docs rules , and also listen to those of you that are much wiser than me . so im just sittin here in the man cave , doin a little "self medicating" and staring at the ride and cruisin the hamb , thanks again . todd
