Gday guys, was hoping i might be able to get some car history info or some more pics of a drag car known as Spy Machine Chrysler released that model here in Australia as the Valiant R Series, i posted a pic of Spy Machine on moparmarket forum (oz site) & it generated some interest in more wanting to be known about it & it's history etc I have managed to find the following pics on The HAMB but would like more if anyone feels obliged to share: And if not Spy Machine then any other of the same model car used for racing Cheers bernie
Also found lil' bit of info here on The HAMB but looking for more: "is an altered wheelbase C/A Valiant known as The Spy Machine which was from West Vancouver and use to run at the old Mission Raceways and over at Van Isle Dragstrip on Vancouver Island. The car started out as a 4dr but was made to a 2 dr with an altered wheel base."
OK, I wrote this a long time ago, but never posted it. The car was a '62 Valiant 4 door sedan made to look like a 2 door. We, being Mike Gillis bought the car more or less like you see it in any early pictures. Obviously it was a "altered wheelbase / g***er style" of the day. Having said that > think '57 Chev > 2 door post (510) 502/502 > tube axle front > Richmond Gear 5-speed > Oh the kids just want to have fun. So > 331" SBC (basically a GM 340HP/327") 5.38 12 bolt posi (no spools in those days) Now that I think about it, OH my God, Axles ??? What was I thinking ? I was driving this car with OEM axles ? Mike, we need to talk. Back to the car > Mondello heads (the best of the best for the day) Isky 555 roller cam Joe Hunt Vertex Magneto and yada yada yada BUT, forgot to tell you about no front brakes, the master cylinder was under the floor and was actuated by a left hand lever, early style line lock. Now the trick part was the transmission. It was a "Clutchflite" courtesy of Dale Hunt. Although he was running one in his 426" Wedge Willys , to the best of my knowledge, we were the first to do it with a Chevrolet engine. This was on pump gas of the day. We would have been 11.5 > 1 ??? Thats OK for iron heads today. Did I mention being 22 years old? I forgot about the leaving at 7000rpm. Now I leave at 3800-4000 and shift at 6000 (LITE) (6200 on the tell tail) and cross at 5800 - 6200. Depends on the al***ude. 114 - 117 mph OK, that's it, wait . My sister says stop giving out her number, she is NOT out there. By the way, other than the fact, that Aus has 8 of the most 10 deadly animals. well you get the picture here. Back to the bear thing versus the slimy crawl in your sleep thing.
