    Here's the story...

My dad is looking to take his stock '60 Chrysler to a Rod & Custom shop for an overhaul. Shaved door handles, paint, interior, and some minor mechanical work.

He is really interested in using Chris at "Chaotic Customs" in Mulvane. I've heard some pretty bad feedback from a few sources...but I can't convince my dad of this otherwise. He's pretty set on taking it here, even though I would much rather him take it to Jeff Myers in Ark City.

Basically I just want to hear from you guys if this place is okay. My dad is really into the hobby, but has never been too hands on with building, so it will definitely need to go to a custom shop. I just don't want him to get burned, so any feedback would be great.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Is your Dad a HAMBer

If so, he might take advice ....

If not, he is now how you were at 17 and probably will
    not listen to anyone ;)

Tables turn as we get older ......

You know him all too well...haha

I can't be a voice of reason, but I figure if I send him a link with some suggestions he might listen if I'm lucky.

Thanks Roger, my original story didn't outline all the details.

He lives in my hometown of Wellington...just south of Wichita. He has quite a few outlets to choose from...I'm just not sure about his choice.

I know Chris at Chaotic Customs, I've seen a lot of their custom work and they do
a great job. The bad thing with everything is you will always hear the bad before the
good. Chris and family are good Christian people and run a family own business. I
would be shocked if they did something to decieve anyone. I wouldn't think twice
about having them build a car for me... (my 3cents)

I think that is definitely MORE than 3 cents worth of recommendation...

    Thanx Mick,

I understand they're a lot of shops out there to get people. This is not one of them.
I would have done the same thing for my dad. Although, first I would have to take
him to the the Doctor because he isn't into cars...Ha, ha, ha

It is best if your dad , checks out the shops he is interested in in person, stop by, look around, don't call on the phone, see the work talk to the people, pick the best shop that works for him, llok at the cars they have built, I have heard nothing bad about chris and family, I have known him before he could drive, they are good people. look at the work and see what styles work for him.

  12. Both of these Shops do some Super Stuff. I do think that Jeff Myers made a valid statement in that maybe your father should check both of them out, and go with his gut feeling as to which one he could best work with. I don't know Chris, but I have met him, and I have not ever heard anything negative about him. I do know Jeff and I have been around a lot of his work that has made it into the magazines. You don't hear anyone saying bad things about him either. What you have here are two very talented individuals, who turn out (in my opinion) different kind of finished images. Your Dad should check both of them out and determine which one would come closest to what he has in mind. Neither of them would turn out shoddy work, "image desired is in the eye of the beholder", that being your Father's choice.

I've known Jeff for years also and he would get my vote but like he said your dad needs to go to the shops in person and then make a decision...

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I actually contacted Jeff and asked a few questions, then told my Dad to give him a call. He actually went over to Jeff's shop earlier this week after visiting Chris at Chaotic Customs a couple weeks ago. He was very impressed with Jeff's work and the visions he had for his car and decided to have him build it. So it looks like Jeff is going to be able to get it in the beginning of next year and build another super cool Kansas Kustom. It will be amazing when it's finished, I have no doubt in my mind. I'm sure Jeff or I will post some build pictures once it gets underway.

Hahaha, thanks SHOE< it's customers like shoe that make all this work worthwhile, not only is he a beatnik brother, but a loyal customer that understands the artistic ability and lets the builder have some input. If it wasn't for people like shoe I couldn't build cars and I truely enjoy making people like this happy, not just doing a job.
