I thought of posting this in the Art Show, but I dont really consider it art... Anyway, I got bored tonight and tore down one of my Hot Wheels, only to bring it back to life as a rat. I tried to capture that look anyway. Lemme know what you think! Here's how it started out: (The black one) And after about 4 hours, and a big ****** hole in my thumb, heres what I came up with: Im going to go and clean up the white walls abit after I post this. And I really wish I could have gotten some better wheels, but those are what I had, so I tried to make them work as best I could Comments appreciated!
looks good. Now what you gotta do is cast up some early Ford V8 wheels and sell 'em to other modelers.
[ QUOTE ] Man, somebody has some extra time on their hands! Looks good. [/ QUOTE ] Must be "SNOWED IN"...!!! Next week when cabin fever really sets in..., he'll be sending posts on his pinstriped and customized refridgerator , toaster , microwave , cat , dog , wife and kids... !!!!
awesome, maybe try filling in the spokes with JB weld to make smoothies or maybe use a hole punch on a soda can and get instant moon discs.
Ooohh...I like that idea. I actually did switch out the wheels with some green painted steelies and wide whites from a Jada Toys 57 Suburban. Ill post newer pics when everythin is reset. And if anyone has any other ideas for the body or interior, Id love to hear em! Thanks

Check out the 36 Ford from the 1:64 JJ line. It has really nice chrome steelies and wide whites. Also, the bench seat inside is way more detailed than the Hot Wheels. You could trim it to fit inside the truck. Sean
Heres some more pics of the progress: Better pics from the updates of last night, plus a new steering wheel, and if you look very very closely on the pic in my last post, you can see the first of a few dash plaques im putting on the firewall. And work still to do: Shifter knob More Dash Plaques Considering some empty beer cans... Repaint the pinstripes and number Maybe a tonneau cover or tail gate Any other ideas are totally welcome! And, of course, comments please! Also, I borrowed my Dad's version of this car, which is identical to what mine looked like when I started for comparison purposes... Thanks for looking!
Neat looking. I fiddle around with these also. What did you use for the lettering and striping? Almost looks like pencil of some sort. Here is a Jada Rat Rod (their term, not mine) Caddy. I thought the roof would look good in green flake. I used Krylon and some hobbyshop flake and a lot of clear. The rest of it is like it came from the factory.
Here is a better look at the flake. I have a few radical (for my skill level) Hot Wheels coming soon. I hope "Hinge Man" doesn't show up on this post... he'll make us look stupid.
Me and my daughter just did a similar thing to the 5 pack labeled Circus Cars or something like that. It comes with the ugly burgandy 33 coupe on a good set of fenders, and the 30 sedan that does not have them. took a bit of modifying, but it makes a nice little full-fendered sedan.
that is awesome, what did you use to lay on the paint, and flake? a hobby airbrush gun like they use for models?
man this is funny! the flake on the caddy came out great. looks really sharp. i have all those rat rod jada toys. i love to "bag" them. they look awesome on the ground, but they never roll again. yikes. so much for "form follows function". keep up the good work.
thank you for this. I've been brainstorming colors for my caddy..now I don't have to. I can buy one and paint it how I want...hmmmmm....ideas. awesome.
Guys, Great stuff! I did a heavily modified Matchbox a while back, and some friends have done some wild rodded Hot Wheels too. If you're in So Cal, and want something to do indoors, come on up to our model car show in Ventura on Saturday, the 19th. We've added a table just for customized 1:64 scale (HotWheel/Matchbox/etc.) cars, and I know at least one of the swap meet vendors has some white metal and resin conversions for these little cars. For more info, you can check out our website, here: http://goldcoastnnl.com BTW: those little snaps with the four oval slots in them (go to a fabric store and you'll see what I mean) make great hubcaps and/or steering wheels.
looks good...the ex used to do that when it was snowing & he couldn't work on the big car...looks like you still got some room to lower... TIP: if you pull off the tires from other 1:64's and you lose the "axles" that come with them...you can always use regular office paper clips to make new ones...be careful shoving on the tires though, you WILL bend the makeshift axles.
Actually its Green Krylon. I laid a base then added some flake I bought at a hobby shop (Fastflake I believe) I misted a coat of clear then 'tossed' the flake at it. I then added half a can of Krylon clear. It is a little rough after the clear fully dires. It would take a ton of clear to get it smooth.
