Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tugmaster, Oct 24, 2010.

  1. I am looking to get te radius rods on my car chrome plated. I was looking a Nu-Chrome up in M***. Anyone ever have any plating done by them? They are colse enough to me I could deliver and pickup the parts instead of shipping them. Thanks, Todd

Had stuff done long time ago and it took a long time. Some guys in the car club sent them stuff and they didn't improve there turn around time as of 2 years ago.

  3. I had them do the bumpers on my 51 Ford wagon and it took so lone he screwed up or time frame for the SEMA show. He kept given me stupid excuses and he really screwed up the bumpers that we had filed and blocked to a razor straight finish. He was told to lightly buff and chrome them and when he finally brought them back they were a wavy MESS. I would find someone else if you want a good job and timely return of your parts.

New England chrome in East Hartford never had a problem ,a little slow at times but they are swamped with work.

Yes D&D Plating. 355 Dexter St. Providence, RI 401-861-0621 I had some small stuff done a few years back and another friend had 2 bumpers done. They were quick, and as I remember very affordable, even better they are close to home!

I have not personally used them but have heard they are too slow, mucho dinero, and had some redos. I have heard of a few people being happy with them.

  12. Thanks for the inputs. I will give D&D a call. Along with a couple of places in the Hartford area. I don't want to take a chance on a place where others have had poor service. I want to get the hairpins done but if I can afford it I may get the whole front end done. Todd

Yeah buddy, traded a guy in Manchester for it straight up! The 50 is much more solid body wise than the Galaxie, plus I wanted to go older. When I saw you at the fallout I told you I am a GM guy at heart! do you happen to have a rear bumber left from your Chevy per chance?

I've had them do a couple of jobs in the past and they **** in my opinion. Their turn around time is "it'll be ready in a week" that's some time in the next year maybe! I got tired fighting with them over when thr job would be done. In general, I've not had very good luck with any rechromer.

Another option is http://www.alliedmetalfinishing.com in South Windsor, CT. I've used them as well as New England Chrome. Allied is my first choice but sometimes they are so far out in schedule they stop taking in new work. Both places usually have a long lead time and typically don't have the work done in the quoted time, so plan accordingly.

X2 - or is it X20? I had them do parts for my 1966 442. They did NOT get the pits out, just left the divots. Had them redo parts, still not great.

Bottom line - you can buy better but you can't pay more.

    Todd,
I used Nu-Chrome when I did the front end and other stuff on my '33 P/U when I built it. I knew I was paying him more than I could have gotten somewhere else, but he promised superior quality and a reasonable delivery as compared to many chrome shops.

In the end the quality ****ed on many of the parts, including extras like chroming spindles, yup the spindles...I asked him how exactly I put bearing over that?...he ended up stripping them and redoing them.

And the promised 1 month delivery turned into 3 months, with false promise, after false promise!

I strongly suggest staying clear of him!

Just so its known about any chromer has longer lead times then promised. Try to avoid chrome shops close to bike week events and early spring. I actually do all the polishing myself before sending to the chrome plater unless its needs to be spec'd. The best thing locally is to befriend one of the platers on the floor and get it done after hours.

This is some interesting communication, just another way this forum helps us stay hip to whats going on in the world without having to have bad experiences etc. Great responses to this subject dudes, this is what hotrodding friends are about. Not wishing anybody bad vibes, but when several people tell the same story it is time to listen. Good Luck with your brite work bro. ~Sololobo~

So have you done a bunch of differant types of parts with them, Lenny?
You been happy with the quality and lead time, oh yea...and price?

  24. I used them for a couple of items...11 months for my hood ornament and 6 months for a pair of taillight bezels...the work was awesome so no complaints there but I used to call and leave messages and they would never return calls so that was the frustrating part as I was worried they had lost both the hood ornament and the taillight bezels both of which were hard to find in the first place...so in summary good work, very slow and poor communication

I've used New England Bumper twice. He was as cheep as Bumper boys but in Providence so i could go in person. One of my bumpers cracked at a bolt after a few months and he redid it ,then I had him do my parking light pods and custom grill parts and they have been fine.Funny thing is I walked thru the shop trying to find him the last time and there was no chrome tanks there! He takes them to NY for the chrome. after he does the welding and straightening

South Shore Plating in Quincy Ma. does the highest quality work I've ever seen. No aluminum or die cast nor full size bumpers get plated there. Not inexpensive.
