If you MUST run a V6,steer clear of the 2.8 tho it was a decent lil motor than ran forver when taken care of,its a gutless slug!use a 4.3 or the Buick 3.8'GN Turbo version if yer lucky to score one but trust me,you want somthing that will at least keep you up with the rest of traffic i.e a V8 and a good healthy one at bat.
ive got a 4.3 with a 350th in my "A" . it seems more than powerful for what i think it should run .it shares alot with its sbc family too all alt ,a/c, p/s brkts for sbc are the same. mtr mounts too. if ya wanna the 4.3 has the same bore and stroke as a 350. some imagine the possibilties there.gm had the syclone and tyfoon with all wheel drive and a big turbo. they were the fastest production cars in north america at the time . even seen modified ones run low 10's in the 1/4.i think a 4.3 would be the best choice.you and even run a 700r4 or a 2004r overdrive auto trans for even greater fuel econmy.
Drop in the V-6, then weld the hood shut. Put some 426 Hemi badges on it, tell everybody who wants to gawk at it to cough up $100. If that doesn't discourage them from wanting to see the motor, have your girlfriend flop out the ol hooters! Instant change of conversation!
Greatt rant man...I appreciate your hour drive to go 12 miles. I dirve 27 miles to work and it takes about an hour...all freeways! While sitting in my truck watching the herd slowly tomp along in the morning I've come to the conclusion that it's not the drivers fault that we all move at a mind numbing 35 miles an hour (on a good day). If it werent for the car swallowing pot holes or the misc. speedbumps placed speradically along the freeway we Michigan folk would be able to drive at least 40! That felt good...do you see patients Greg, I have this thing about the tube of toothpaste I'de like to get off my chest!
I seriously blame the traffic on the local authorities incharge of the traffic lights and design of the merge areas. If a particlar area clogs day after day - it should be studied and some changes should be made to tune it up - and it should be done within 30 days. Instead - state employees are useless ****s and they don't do anything pro-active. I go 20 miles in an hour sometimes and I get fumed that day after day no one changes the timing on a particualr arrow light to last for more than 10 seconds. That is why there is alway 200 cars piled up waiting to turn left. I merge right, go the wrong way and u turn to get throught the light. I shouldn't have to do that. Otherwise I sit for over 20 minutes while the light cycles 10 times and people lolly gag throught the light. To add fire to the fumes, sometimes the cops sit out and ticket people who merge into the line for this left hand turn sooner than 300 ft from the light. If you waited till you were that close to get in line for the light - nobody would let you in, because everybody else got in the turn lane 1/4 mile ago - prepared to wait. I explained that to the cop and he told me tough **** - 300 ft. Fat Hack - you are so right - if people were the slightest bit considerate or gave a **** and paid attention, traffic would move faster.
State Employees are useless ****s??? I'm a State Employee....okay, I can agree with that statement I'm lucky I go to work at 4:00am and the drive is just over 20 miles to downtown Topeka, I can get there in 25 minutes. Living in or near a smaller city does have some benefits. Although the negatives are definetly greater then the positives. I mean this is Topeka Kansas. Farmall
Don't blame anyone but yourselves. You are the ones who choose to live and work in the big city. I drive 25 miles each way (4 miles of which is gravel road), takes me 3 beers and 28 minutes. When I get home, I'm thoughly relaxed, pet the wife and kiss the dogs.
Aww, C'mon Greg... you know where I live, and I work damn near to Chelsea, and I can get there (28 miles) in 20 minutes... straight shot down M14. Now, getting home, especially on a Friday, factor in an hour and a half, at least. It's gotten to the point where if I go through Dexter and take "back roads" I can get home in 40 minutes. Oh yeah, and see them "brown varmints" that I missed in November too! I can remember as a kid, actually being able to go to the local McDonalds at lunch time and eat in less than in hour. In fact, I don't ever remember waiting in a line. Now, that same trip will eat up the better part of an after noon...Ford Road traffic and all. That's why I like our White Castle! All in all, it was the same in Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago or any other major city I've been to... What was the reason you left Beaverton again? I wish the wife got along better with her family, cause I sure could get usta life in Harrison or Gladwin. Later, Jay
