Ok, so since the motor grenade of Sept 18th, iv had my 47' Sedan for sale. No luck on anyone even coming out to take a look. Figure i better do somthing to it if its sticking around. Thinkin of dropping a motor in it and using it to bomb around in. Iv got a 351 Ford motor in the back, but i also have a 218 Dodge 6, and a 283 chevy. The brakes are all fresh, as is the suspension and wiring. It made it 300 miles to vantage and back what do you guys think i should do? Drop it? make it a dirt track car? load it full of C4 and turn it into dust? Any and all opionions are greatly appreciated.
try to find a replacement engine. Their must be a few flathead plymouth units around. this would be the quickest way to go. Good Luck anyway..
its big enough to live in. put a trailer hitch on it and a bed in it and you wont have to pay rent? lol. if you go the c4 route, you better do a vid. LOL. if you keep it on the road, id throw the 283 in and drop it some. maybe do a chrome flame job like the one in the spray on chrome thread? its still a cool old ride.
Ford engines fit better in that narrow engine compartment with the c4. My Dad built one in the early 70's. Firemist Ember Maroon paint, ghost flames, 302/C4 57 Chev rear, orig interior. I spent my young life in a 47 plymouth sedan so I cringe at "dirt track car http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/album.php?albumid=20844&pictureid=231482
dont ask 2500 for it. maybe take a zero off, not trying to bust your balls but thats probably worth about 250 around here.
put a desoto 6 in mine it would fly , lot better engine , but that was in the day when things were simpler . chry. and desoto were a little longer but would fit easy swop
How about chop, drop, section, rear skirts, white walls and paint? Click for a larger image Poorly done but you get the idea/ Ryland
Oh, now THAT is a kickin' idea boy! Make it your long term project, take the time to build a sled, you might not think it's your thing right now, but you'll change your mind when you're cruisin' low and slow...
Well at first blush what I am inclined to suggest isn't physically possible and would probably cause you to hitch hike back here and beat me to mush. I think I might be inclined to take any of the engines you mentioned other than the 283 and stab it in there and drive it. The 283 is too valuable as a hot rod engine ot put in a more door MOPAR. The Ford and the Dodge on the other hand are less likely to be wanted for a trad rod build and both would make great tooling around motors. Stuff one of those in it clean it up and give it the "I screwed with my Mom's car look" and you got yourself a winner. Why loose your investment.
if you weren't on the other coast i would be all over that for a grand. spray bomb it, throw in any thing but a sbc and just bomb a round in it as a neat old beater.
If you have a 218 Dodge that is what was in there when new. What is holding you up from sticking the one you have in the car? Is it any good?
The Dodge bolts in ... split the manifold, 2 coils out of the front, 8.20s in the back ... rub it out & wax it - the car's done !
no . No . No . sell raffle tickets , have a party & some drunk will buy it. it always works . WHATS THAT SITTIN ON THE OTHER SIDE OF IT ?
