Anybody here done the conversion of using a 28-29 tank/cowl on a T-coupe? Is the cowl removable from the hinge pillars on the T or does a guy have to get that from the 28-29? Thanks I found this pic here on another thread..
I dont know for sure, but I'd say there maybe a little work to get them to fit together. One trick maybe to use model A pickup hinge pillars. The model A has a different bolt up arrangement to that of the T. The model T cowl is about 1 inch longer front to back compared to the model A. Not sure why you would consider the swap exactly, except to say you would probably gain capacity if using the original gas tank from the model A.
Glad to see someone trying to do this! I believe you need the 28-29 Closed Cab Pickup hinge post, then the T doors and body just bolt on. You could fab up an adaptot and put the A tank and cowl on a T but using the a hinge posts is the quicker way around it. Please post photos of the build!
If you can't find what you need, this guy is making them new. http://stores.ebay.com.au/WADDINGTONS-STREET-RODS
I would consider the swap just for the look alone never mind gaining more engine compartment clearance area and the original tank.
That picture was taken at my house cuz that car use to be mine, I have since sold it. Unfortunately I can't help much as the car looked factory? I was told that possibly it was a late 27? not sure though???? If your looking to make one of your own it seemed to fit quite easily??? and imo looked quite good!! FLiP
from what i can see in the picture it looks like `28-`29 closed cab pickup door posts. that's what i'd look into if i was doing the swap
oldrelics, have you found out any more on connectioning a 28-29 Model A cowl to a 27 Model T Coupe? Since I've seen this thread, I've been thinking about doing the same thing.
I'm pretty sure you need the 28-29 pickup hinge/windshield posts to do it, since most say that they share the doors with the 26-27 T coupe.
I'd just grab a tank and cowl sides and the windshield rail and go from there, everything else looks T coupe to me!!
I remember trying this back in the 80's (when I was 16 or 17) before I had a welder and other things neccessary to accomplish it. I beleive the main problem was the cowl was abit too wide. With the things I have in my shop now I am sure I would get it done. Rod
Thanks Brent! A few years ago there was the reverse of this 26-27/28-29 swap. A 28-29 Closed Cab pickup with a 26-27 cowl fore sale at the CSRA swap meet. Bob
i've seen it done one closed cars but never a roadster. i think it would look good as the bead down the 1928-1929 cowl would match the rear quarters on the 1926-1927 roadster.
My Father built this t coupe on an A frame I hauled out of the woods. He used glass A fenders and the rears fit well. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
