One of the popular tricks I've seen for lowering a 1932 in the rear is flattening, narrowing and installing a '35-'40 rear crossmember. I have a decent '33-34 rear crossmember but before I senselessly go cutting it up is there any reason I couldn't do the same thing with it or should I really go find a '35-40 rear crossmember? Thanks guys!!
The 35-40 rear cr***member uses the straight spring. The 32 -34 has a bent spring that does not work well with the later axles. Countless straight springs have been used by either grinding the spring for clearance or m***aging the crossmember to fit. Personally, I would grind the spring and not change the frame if the 32 frame had a crossmember. If it dosen't, then a later crossmmber would be easier.
Has anyone got some pics of this, using the '35-40 rear crossmember and spring ?? Im also looking for a rear crossmember if anyone's got one that they want to get rid of.
Cool, I just read his thread for his '35 3 window - AWESOME !!!! Some good pics of his flattened rear crossmember and ride height. Thanks
how much drop are you looking to get? by swapping to the 1933-1934 crossmember, you'll get a little over an inch without other mods. it may be easier to swap springs than cross members if you don't need much more.
Oh wow, guys, this is an old thread! I picked up a 1940 rear crossmember and already did this months ago! http://waywardgarage.com/3171/building-the-1932-ford-frame-part-1/ Thanks for the heads up though!
I'm not 100 % sure on an actual figure that I'm after, but basically want to get the wheels right up into the wheel wells. I know most guys run a quickchange with Model A crossmember and Model A or T spring, but I'm just using a stock '40 Banjo. I've been told that the 33/34 uses the curved spring and that I want to avoid that and use a later model spring.
Instead of a genie crossmember, you can always use a rectangular or round tube to attach your spring-of-choice to.
