I know it sounds like overkill, but thats why I have a Hemi in my hudson. I have been reading the article about Bruce Crower's blown Chrysler Hemi Hudson a couple of times now and have been contemplating doing a 6-71 blower on my car. I could sell my 4 barrel intake and offset some of the cost of going with a blower. I have a couple of questions for you guys: Did you change to forged pistons? Did you clean up your exhaust runners at all? Headers? Different cam? Gilmer drive I ***ume. Thanks, Keith H.
the only thing better than a hemi is a blown hemi! for a street deal cast pistons are fine. headers are a must, and any cam will work, but a blower grind will certainly work better.
Sure do, here ya go: http://home.comcast.net/~dehudso/bay.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~dehudso/cooler.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~dehudso/fan.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~dehudso/hemi.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~dehudso/hemi2.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~dehudso/right-mount.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~dehudso/left-mount.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~dehudso/left-head.jpg Little update: Generic cotton gauze filter is gone and replaced with a supn aluminum velocity stack with a foam filter. Transmission pressure gauge is gone. Grille support stainless trim is off, to make room for a 1957 buick grille. Throttle return spring has been removed from crossmember.
Looks real good Keith. Tight fit, but then again, the 460 in mine is tight too. I take it you are running the stock subframe? Mine was clipped (very badly) before I got it, and I re-clipped it when I got it.
Yep, stock subframe. Dad is trying to convince me that I need to swap in something a little more modern, as it handles like a tuna boat in a storm. Probably has something to do with those gigantic cylinder heads way up high. I was thinking about getting my sway bar copied in a 1-1/8" version to aid in the handling, and some kind of better front brakes at least. The drums stop awesome the first time, then fade to nothingness. It is an absolute hoot to drive, second gear is way to much fun as is. It should be illegal. What did you re-clip it with?
You should lower the compression to 8:1, and run Forged pistons. Stock head gaskets work well for the street. Headers are a must. A re-grind on the cam is also needed for a blower. Heres a pic of my coupe from last week. -Jason
I'm doing a 331 OR 354 (trying a 354 first) for my F-100. The blower set-up is mostly used and ebay parts. Dean Blowers did the 6-71 rebuild...the drive was an ebay buy from Dyer's...new SSI/Cragar intake...Clay Smith H280 cam and kit (George @Clay Smith recommends installing it 3 degrees advanced)...I'm buying 8 to 1 Ross pistons from HotHeads...my block is going to the machine shop soon. I'm going to try running a Cirello magneto...this is going to be a hoot to drive!
Thanks for all the info guys. It looks like I will be keeping it under 5psi. I bet even there it will be plenty of fun.
Definitly go with forged pistons, the cast won't live long with the higher psi, also make sure you run a real good ring. "Blown HEMI there is no subs***ue"
Try calling/E-mailing these people - http://www.cnc-motorsports.com/ I bought Eagle crank and rods from them for about half price. They sell SRP, JE, Probe, and may be able to get your Ross for you cheaper. Mutt
Anyone know the piston pin height of a desoto hemi? A 341 is 3.78" by 3.8" I know that much. I might be able to work some flat top forged 305 pistons in there if the pin height is close. Or some .030 over 265 pistons. heck, even some standard for 2.3L pistons. It all depends on that height.
