alright guys heres the scoop. I found this on craigslist.

    http://eastnc.craigslist.org/tls/2035682740.html

im playing phone tag with the guy right now, i plan on getting the serial number so that i can call my miller dealer and get all the info from them.

Can anybody give me some information on this cutting from just the craigslist add? Like im guessing i need to run my own air to it, what all thickness can i cut with it and anything i should look at. If it works im guessing its a great deal and my miller dealer should be able to look it over aswell before i start using it.

    Thanks guys!

better check to see if it is single phase power if it is three phase you cant use it at home. unless you have three phase power. I have tried using a phase convertor with not much luck.

It shows the "dryer" plug -- that's 220v single phase. 3-phase takes four wires.

Just check with Miller dealer/online suppliers about the cost of consumables -- if you keep the air clean/dry they'll last longer but not forever and if replacements are hard to find/expensive it might make up for low price.

But if it cuts I'd land on it!

I gotta spectrum 700 bought used off cl a few years ago. The 700 is good to about half an inch. Nice heavy duty well built unit. Perfect for a home shop

I will be honest with you, I wouldn't buy it. Plasma cutting technology has come so far in recent years it isn't even funny. I wouldn't waste your money, I think you would be disappointed.

Just my opinion, normaly these type plasma's do not get rusty if they are being used indoors. That one looks more rusty than Ive seen in years. This one is a miller which is a bonus, but there are many of these floating around. Check the used machine tools auctions in NC. Also, since it is single phase, it may get pricey to pervert over to 3-phase. May want to permanantly run it as a single phase.

I think I would 2nd chataf...I have an off brand that is about that size/vintage, and I had the opportunity to use some of the new miller plasmas on a temp job...all I can say is WOW...http://www.millerwelds.com/products/plasma/spectrum_375_x-treme/ this was the small one we used , http://www.millerwelds.com/products/plasma/spectrum_625_x-treme/ and this was the large one....you will notce that you can sling both these over your shoulder...and the 375 is a dual input (110/220) it has a sticker price of about 1500 bucks ...but I bet if you shop around you can find one way cheaper under a grand I bet...and all the consumables will be avaliable, and these units work VERY well...If it was my money I know what I would do...and it wouldn't be spent on a used plasma...Just my 2C...Shawn

what would be the benifit of converting over the 3-phase?

The rust was one that that ive been looking at too, it almost looks like as if it was out side for a while or in a truck or something like that.

I've severed 5/8" making a pitman arm with a Miller 375. It did it but it wasn't pretty. I don't see any justification for a machine any bigger for a home shop use. Basically save some $$$ and buy only a machine big enough for what your working with.
