I thought about getting the original restored in my 58, then I saw in brothers you can buy original replacements, but I liked the look of the insert they sell with 5 gauges, but not the price!!!! So I took everything apart and cut a piece of 1/4 inch plywood to replace the glass. Then I drew a outline that the chrome bezel would cover. Next I cut pieces of poster board the size of the gauges, tight fit! But carefull drilling, sawing, and filing, got them in there. But it looked boreing....needed to cover the plywood with somthing. A map! So I cut up my Texas map, with my home town in the middle and by George I like it!
I like it as well...! I love the Originality for the panel..., and soon all the Gold Chainers will be paying big bucks to cover their dashes with roadmaps...!
Maps would make a great headliner or door panels, or even cover the whole dash. There are plenty of vintage ones available.
You sure you don't need that map to find Midland? Bwwwaahahahaha. I think that's killer bee. Great idea! I can see that Alan shares my big retailer views, Terry. A fine guy (sorry Miss Tina....) best. himmelberg
I've seen some of the paper you can get for scrapbooking, some of it looks like metalflake, pearl, chrome, and those big hologram swirls that look kind like engine turning. They come in colors too... OK I'm not gay! I just buy my paints and brushes and at a place that has the stuff.
Thats sweet. Our game room is wallpapered in maps of places we've been. How about a whole dashboard???
Very cool. Did you do anything to "seal" the map from humidity/moisture/etc. Like put a piece of thin plexiglass over it or Saran wrap or something?
Start at 1/4 tank of gass and travel E to the High beam indicator Continue to 30psi oil pressure and Go to 11 volts Turn south until you hit 8,000 RPM When you get to 12,000 RPM cut across to about 15MPH At 15MPH head N to 185deg and you're almost there. Continue past 190deg to the Left turn indicator and call me.
sweet idea! here's some fabric for a headliner! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8142727571&category=71206 or http://www.virginiaquilter.com/cgi-...ps.html?L+scstore+qwwl7678ff5e775e+1108749595
Cool idea. I was thinking of doing something like that for my 59. Maybe I'll try it as soon as I get some extra time, money , and talent.
Dim memories of childhood Arts&Crafts classes. The term is decoupage. Laminating paper to wood with a clear coating, usually varnish or laquer..
