any suggestions on an affordable gas tank for 40 ford pickup with a 95-96 chevy TBI motor. was going to use a stock new tank and a frame mounted fuel pump i got with my new wire harness for the motor conversion, but read that these pumps need to be in the tank to cool.

i priced rock vally and i will have $1100.00 in a set up and tanks inc told me they do not offer one for a 40-41 in any style.

$1100.00 is a lot just for a tank. I know i can use my original idea for a while, but dont want to be on the side of the road with hot fuel pump.

i think this TBI only needs 15 psi also for a pump.

rock valley was really nice and give me some good info on why to stay away from just a non coated steel tank and a plastic one also, i guess i will look for a coated tank or ss tank.

any help to save some money is appreciated.

FYI: 9-13 psi is the O.E. specification.

Not to hijack your thread But I also am planing on using a TbI setup in my car. I have a used steel tank from a F1 ford. I planed on using a stock gm in tank sender/fuel pump by welding in a retainer ring from a gm tank to acept the pump. I will also need to install a resivor pan in the tank. Has any one else had experiance on doing this ?

You need to spend some time in a salvage yard measuring tanks. U pick yards are FULL of GM TBI vehicles, and even tho they generally punch the tanks to drain them, you can get an idea of what will fit under your project. You could buy a new replacement tank for whatever fits, or go to a salvage yard and get a used one knowing what you want.

I used a tank from a late 80's Caprice in my '41 Chev convert with 350 TBI. My '59 T'Bird with a 5.0 HO has the original tank with a Tempo fuel pump/sending unit. My '48 Pontiac has the poly tank from a '94 Caddy Fleetwood, pump and all, feeding the LT1 that the Caddy also donated. The LS motivated '51 Pontiac wagon has the original tank with an '01 Silverado pump/sender. My Diamond T project has the tank from a '94 G20 van, with a Walbro submerged pump, but your truck would probably accept one of these tanks as is with it's OEM pump/sender. See a pattern here?

Get your tape measure and get busy.

Oh, I spent nothing for any of these other than the aftermarket pump for the DT, as the van tank is for a TBI 350 (originally going in the truck) but now will supply the LS 6.0. That's a hundred bucks. Pretty cheap for a garage full of hot rod fuel tanks.
