i also hate to point out the obvious here and say, i doubt that will happen ANY time soon. hell there are vehicles NOW being built that have no impact zones, air bags, and some even come without seatbelts.

Tractors (read big trucks) come from the factory with no airbags, and no impact crumple ********, and not to mention, if you put your kids on a school bus, THEY AINT WEARIN A SEATBELT

they are however open pocketed... with our cash i might add :D

  3. Statistically speaking ther are more fatalities for the front p***enger seat. (the higher occupancy rate of this position over that of the back seat notwithstanding).
See it as an effort to reduce the odds of injury or death. I'll take any advantage to keep my son safe although he's old enough to sit up front with me. That make me drive more carefully and have more patience. Remember, kids are paying extreme attention to what you say and do.

    Yuppies? Yech!

Seatbelts are great....as long as they're not on me. Don't wear 'em in my winter daily ('95 Fleetwood Brougham), don't have any in the '59 Cadillac, and I don't intend on putting any in. This is the way I like it, and I'm only endangering my own self with this....don't kid yourself that I'm endangering p***engers...I tell them before they git in.."There's no seatbelts in here. If you don't like it, don't ride in my car". Don't allow kids in there either...they DO need to be buckled up. Oh, and on the safety of old cars versus new, I hit a deer with my '59 Cadillac last fall...I was going about 55, slowing down from about 70...killed that ****er but good, and then drove the car 100 miles home. Crunched up the very front of the hood just a little, and bent a couple of grille pieces, but that was about it....try that **** in a new car...you'de be sitting next to the engine. I also know a guy that lives in New Jersey that owns a '60 Cadillac....had a head on collision with some yuppie in a lexus on the freeway....yuppie crossed the median...both cars doing 70mph....guy in the 60 caddy walked away from the accident unscratched, the accident whiping out the front end of the cad...the other guy's car was completely unrecognizable, and he was killed in the crash. The '60 was repaired and is once again on the road. Never like to hear about anyone getting hurt, but it sure makes me feel safe driving that '59 now. I have no prob with other people wearing belts, but I feel it should be a matter of personal decision. This isn't like drinking and driving, by not wearing a belt, the only person I'm endangering is myself. If I feel confident in not wearing one, or am willing to take the gamble, or however you see it, it should be up to me. Sorry about the rant...just needed to express myself!

I wasn't finding much in this thread of interest. Pretty predictable reactions from the peanut gallery, but when HRP wrote that I found the nugget in the mud. Thanx for saying that.

  10. Well just goes to show how the collective majority (Mr And Mrs Avg who believe everything they read in the local rag during breakfast) have been brainwashed by the Guvmint, m*** marketers and the safety pinheads.

Nice to know that these *******s are not only trying to tell you how to run your life Stateside....

    It aint any better here....

    Rat out....

  11. Oh....I forgot....

"SAFETY" is a M***IVE business these days.

    "SAFETY" sells

"SAFETY" is a awesome revenue raiser for the Feds....

"PROTECTING" people from themselves is a HUGE money spinner.....

All the **** that is labeled as "SAFETY" now we DID as normal when we were kids....and I think we survived OK. The sad thing is , kids today will never know what its like to do the **** we did when we were the same age. ****, even drinking water outta a garden hose is "dangerous" these days.

The worst thing is, the ****ing *****s who believe all this **** do their best to impose it on everyone else.

I drive a late model ride for workmpuproses, but like someone said, id rather by drivin a '62 Chevy than an 05 anyhting in a crash. Pity the poor ******* who hits me in 2 tonnes of Detroits finest......!!!

  12. These folks weren't necessarily yuppies. They were just some dumb ignorant *****s that just got out of their late model mobile and haven't even got a clue as to what you were driving. It's their way or the wrong way. They don't deserve a second thought.

The truth be known, they were probably part of the bunch that buys a new car in response to the salesmans two famous questions. #1) How much can you afford a month? & #2) What color are you looking for?

For those who don't really know what a yuppie is, or at least who qualifies for the term, here's the definition.

    yuppie

n : a young upwardly mobile professional person; someone under 40 who prospered during the 1980s

Now, I don't know if that means someone who was under 40 in the 80's or someone who is now....wait, that would make them pre-adolescents in the 80's...

    I think that's an updated Gen-X re-definition. I think the term predates the 80's, doesn't it?
Otherwise, how did Jerry Ruben come up with the first political party I registered for, the YIPPIE party?

I saw a VW microbus once with a sticker under the "****ingruven" sticker that said
YUFFIE : "Young Urban Financial Failure"

I bet more people qualify for that ***le that the YUPPIE ***le, weather they realize it or not...

Wow. It seems like good old Nads has replaced Germ as the HAMB's loco guru whacko magnet.
He makes one lame post and gets dozens of responses.

But I'm just jealous. And scared of dirty looks. Don't mind me. I'm ascaird of harsh judgements!

being in the auto collision industry for 10+ yrs. i have seen plenty of wrecked cars and trucks.

the Safest place for a kid is in the center of the back seat. i give my brother **** all the time. he places my nephew in the back seat but against the door. now what would happen if some body broad sided him? he says its easier to get him in out of the car. no one said raising and taking care of a kid was easy. take the time and place him in the center of the back seat. PERIOD

I'm also one who grew up sitting on my moms lap in the front seat of our 66 Nova sport coupe, When the car p***ed to me later, I could see the chew marks I put in the dash pad. But no doubt, in a head on collision i'd have been history. I remember sleeping across the back dash too, would have been right out the windshield in a crash. So now I have to admit I worry about my 5 and 7 year olds when they're in my 37 Ford, and I may go ahead and change the rumble seat in my A roadster to a trunk because they'll always want to ride back there, and it would be bad news if someone hits me in that little thing. Its my choice to drive a hotrod, and like a true dummy I hardly ever put my seat belt on, but I want my little ones safe. Thats the reason I put my wife and kids in a late model yuppie mobile, with belts out the wazoo, and airbags even in the back doors. Does that make me uncool?

But, I dont want any busybody telling me what I have to do, or minding my business. Or telling me how to discipline my kids...which is a whole nuther subject......

Aw - I was driving when I was 5. I was sitting on somebody's lap steering - mostly on country roads but sometimes around town. But that was the mid 70's in the bustling metro that is Prairie Grove, AR :) and things have changed I suppose. More people moving faster really is a shame it was a real blast holding unto that impala steering wheel that was as big as me.

I recall when I was a wee lad in the early 80s, my twin sister and I would always fight over who got to sit on "The Big Thing" as we called it... That little fold down arm rest in the bench seat of cars from the late 70s. We liked it because you could see everything. I NEVER wore a seatbelt back then, either. It was before seat belt laws so we never had to.

I was at the doctor's office with my sister and her one-year old recently and read the statute on the doctor's wall about children in car seats. Some states require a car seat for your child until they are 8 years old. Could you imagine that? A third grader in a car seat?

You could never be seen driving the kid to school unless you wanted him to get his *** kicked.

But who makes them actually wear the seatbelts? I live in Texas and see several school buses every day...none of those kids are wearing seatbelts. When I grew up we did not have seatbelts in buses but we never went over 45mph...the buses here in San Antonio hit 70+mph on 1604 and 410.

My opinion is: Buckle your kids up properly somewhere in the car...front, back, middle just do it. If you make a reasonable effort to be safe you and your kids will be fine...unfortunatly there will be some accidents that no amount of seatbelts can protect you from.
