FE guru's please help!

im rebuilding my 390 fe im running speedpro h304p pistons and hastings 574 rings,my question: is the ring with the dot and inner bevel supposed to go in the top groove or just face the piston top,it will not fit inthe top groove so i thought i would ask,the pistons and rings are .060 if that matters.. thanks,MERRELL

 

Should be top groove, ring dot up, but you might either call them and ask or talk to a GOOD Mechanic.

I think the top ring has the inner notch down and the 2nd ring the inner notch up because of the way the running forces operate on them. But check...

The dot faces up to top of piston, the rings in a 390 have different thickness,so the ring you are trying to put on goes in the second grove with dot up, the package the rings came in will have the instructions on which way to install them........

 

thanks paul,i finally got i figured out..my dumb*** took them all out of the box then realized each section of the box was marked for each groove
