Those are special. Were the DeSoto & Fargo pickups made
in one location (Canada?), or over time in several locations?

Oddly, the Mystere -- with lots of predictive style cues -- wasn't
publicly displayed until AFTER the '57 production Fords were
already on display in showrooms. Lots of glass and a mid-engine
too. You can see shades of the '58-'60 T-birds, plus several early
'60s Ford models.

You all posting the finny DeSoto pickups reminded me about this
Brazilian Ford creation. Before the "SUV" craze officially became
a movement, there really were SUVs already in existence, lots of
places. This is really a very together, practical package for rough
terrain! HAMBer Raphael Bruno (screen handle "ClubEdoPuma")
posted this photo on the ALWAYS fab thread "Sitting and Rotting."

He also added some Brazilian links so you can see more:

The Desoto and Fargo Sweptside trucks with fins were made in Detroit right along side the Dodge version but they were made for markets outside the US But Desoto trucks were also made in Australia, So Africa, England and even Turkey

The 1960 Dodge Matador was a one-year wonder, sandwiched between the popular new Dart and the top-line Polara. The Matador accounted for maybe only 10 percent of Dodge sales and died quickly because of the popularity of the other two lines. Around 23,000 Matadors were made in all -- all with V-8s. Of those, perhaps as few as 2,500 would have been wagons.

I think this shot is from Brazil. But what it is baffles me! Maybe
a German-made (Zeppelin company?) public transit on a Dodge
chassis, perhaps 1935 or so??? Anybody know anything for sure
about it? For sure, I bet it does not exist anymore!

This '60 Meteor 2 Door Ranch Wagon was offered for sale on ebay several years ago. It is one of only 491 produced that year and looks like it survived in good condition.

I actually talked to the current owner of this Wagon at a recent swap meet and he claims it is the only survivor of the Meteor 2 Door Ranch Wagons.

The Ford version is supposed to be have the same low production figures.

Very rare '60 Ford 2 Door Ranch Wagon. 1 of approximately 500 built.

1960 Edsel Villager 2 Door Wagon

It looks so natural, you'd think that this Edsel station wagon came straight from the Louisville factory. But the Edsel Division never offered a 2-door Villager for 1960. This customized creation belongs to David Hooten of Wisconsin. It's been shown at many International Edsel Club meets, and currently has a VIN body code of "59A" (which was used in the 1958 model year to designate a 2-door wagon). But by the looks of this car, it should have been offered in '60 too. I never thought they were so rare since I knew an old guy in L.A. who had 2 of those and one of them was his dailly driver he even got T'boned by an Integra once.

Make no mistake, this isn't a rare 1958 Chevrolet Yeoman two-door station wagon, it's an even rarer Delray sedan delivery with windows. 1958 Chevrolet sedan delivery models didn't have a back seat and carried a one-piece tailgate, unlike the two- and four-door station wagons.

SunRoof, you take your long-roofs seriously! Hard
to keep pace. LOL

Here's a ONE-YEAR-ONLY '62 Canadian-made Frontenac,
a badge-engineered Falcon. You'll note the novel grille,
plus the red maple leaves sprinkled around the trim pack-
age. Extremely nice specimen of a car whose total pro-
duction only came to 9,536 at the Oakville, ONT, plant.
Reckon the wagons, then, probably only came to around
1,000 ???

May sound like mere nuance now, but at the time, Ford's
Canadian product and marketing guy, Jon Rideout, suc-
cessfully campaigned for calling the car -- NOT by the
Mercury or Meteor brand names -- but Frontenac, making
it (at least technically) a stand-alone make of its own!
This, Rideout hoped, would not only give the Canadian
Merc dealers a compact to sell in the new market seg-
ment, WHILE deeming the Frontenac a tad more esteem!

The photos of Mr. Richard Vandermey's Frontenac are
THANKS to a detailed article written just last September
by Bob English for the Toronto Globe & Mail, entitled,
"Ford Frontenac a One-Year Wonder." Bob termed the
car "important," as collecting goes, NOT ultra-rare.

However, I wouldn't want to throw a hubcap or mash
that die-cast, chromed grille (not cheaper aluminum!),
as I'll bet there are NONE left in the boneyards to re-
place damaged parts !!!

Was it a complete car?
Or needing a ton of restoration?

There are 2 in the Northeast Auto Museum, and one in the Buffalo transportation Museum.

built in Buffalo, they are pretty rare!

Not sure, but I think AJ's Hershey Post #3933 may have been about this car. But the one he saw was not 4 grand; the ASK was $17,000 !!! Yow! But it was a genuine barn-protected Playboy.

Yes pretty rare, and by all accounts a pretty reliable car.
