Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Arrowood Rod & Kustom, Nov 3, 2010.

  1. I just bought a 1929 Ford Model A Coupe off of eBay it's located in Minnesota and I have a fellow HAMB guy bringing it to me he's from Indiana his HAMB name is "AkaOlSkool" hopefully the car will be here by next weekend, but figured I'd share some picts with you guys in the mean time and let you know the plans for it

the current specs on the car are..
3'' Z in front 15'' Kick up in rear
    350 4 bolt main engine
    Turbo 350 trans
    Ford 9'' Rear end
    Channeled 3-4 inches
    4'' Super Bell Dropped Axle
    '46 Ford Wishbone Front Suspension
    16'' Steel wheels

    future plans..
the car comes with a rear roof/window section that I plan to graft into the existing roof/window and then I plan to chop the top 5''
    '32 grille shell
Dress up the engine a little new valve covers, air cleaner..etc
Coker radial wide white wall tires
    Smoothie center caps
    Make an interior for it
Body work & paint (maybe gold or metallic blue)
    Model A Taillights
    Custom steering wheel
    Different headers
Buick 45 finned brakes up front
and probably a few other things here and there

keep em bias plys please. Those bias look so good on 34 and below rides with no fenders.

    Very nice by the way.

  8. great start , but you may want to narrow up that 9" just a bit

  9. And lose the "modern" tilt steering column. :(

Take your time with the chop-IMO the 28-29 is harder to chop!

  12. rear end defiantly needs to be shortened and yep lossing the modern steering column and steering wheel...any advice on chopping the 28-29, I've done a '30 before and that went pretty smooth so hope this goes the same way

Smack dab in the middle of chopping my '29 now. Unfortunately instead of asking for advice since my '53 Buick turned out fine, I thought no problem and started measuring and cutting away.
It's nothing I or you can't handle but I found out when welding/fitting it back together, that the A-pillar has quite gradual thinning in width from top to bottom. So I'm ending up having to make long vertical pie cuts to match it back up. Just kind of maticulous if you ask me.
And it has also become painfully obvious the window channels on the doors are going to need work as well to line them back up for functioning glass.
I took 4" out and that is probably why the big difference in thickness when putting it back together!
Another thing is I've heard of cutting/removing from the top of the A-pillars. That might of worked better so definiely ask around and do your homework! But I wanted to retain the top hinges, so if I'm this far I'm in it to win it!
P.S. Mine is a Special as well!
    Good luck Killer!!

When chopping mine I eliminated the top hinge and just cut 6" off the top of the a pillar and chopped 6" out of the rest the normal way. Brace the shit out of it. And I found it helps to make a couple vertical slits behind the quarter window where it curves..you can kinda see those in the 2rd pic..

Wow, I say she has potential, but if it were mine I would get rid of the frame to the scrapper, shorten the rear, ditch the column and shifter/console, and stay with the bias plys. Just not that set. Chop it and put it in high gloss black, brown, or blue. Carry On

you dont need to call it a 5 window, no such thing as a 3w A. or at least if you dont build it or find one of those prototypes.

  30. ok, thanks..I've always heard the "old timers" call em 5 window coupes so just went with it
