I came across this 1947 Ford Pick Up at a local car show in the past summer. Took a couple of photos and learned to-day that it sold to Ford Motor Company for $800.K and a new Ford 350 Dually.

Apparently this truck was one of 35 ordered with the McCulluch water cooled supercharger, edmunds aluminum heads, cast iron headers, factory dual exhaust, sunvisor, factory inatalled smokers kit and fan, fog lights and a few other options. This is one of 2 in existance verified as numbers matching. It will be in the FORD Museum.

I guess the experts are now also recognizing semi-customs when they are this rare!!!!

If it were built by the factory, why does it have a Stromberg 97 instead of a 94?

I kinda wonder about this too. I'm sure that if Ford did buy it, it'll get the hot rod stuff rubbed off and be put back to original (what ever that is).

    $800,000 dollars?

  7. That's nice.

I wasn't aware that edmunds heads were even a factory option but what do I know. Stranger things have happened.

    I don't think so, Tim.

Factory beehive oil filter, factory aluminum regulator cover, factory louvered rolled pan, factory chrome generator?

I think somebody is pullin your leg. Why in the world would Ford put all those things on at the factory? Including a finned cover that wasn't even available in 47?

This story is pure unadulterated bull shit.

That is there to warm the incoming air/fuel charge for winter time operation not to cool it. They were made to increase the HP for larger freight hauling trucks. That's about a 1940 model supercharger.

The previous owner obviously put on some add ons, which I am sure FORD will remove and restore it, but it is a legit truck as verified by the Ford experts. They dont throw around that kind of coin for nothing.

  15. OK I read the little article. It was nice and true beyond a shadow of a doubt, I mean it is on the internet.

I have only owned a couple of 46/7 Ford trucks but I have seen several in my lifetime, the locking column is probably not an option. Everyone I have ever seen had a locking column.

Why am I centering on that particular little bit of information? Well if you get that wrong how much other information is wrong? Like for instance the hood clearance problem. of the vehicles that Ford produced in '47 the truck had the most hood clearance.

Also just for grins lets mention the air cleaner itself. Ford used an offset air cleaner on the cars it produced with the McCulluch huffer. It had a sheetmetal horn with a cannister that set off to the side.

This may very well be the real deal I'm sure that Ford was pretty deep into factory truck racing back then but there is a lot that just doesn't add up.

I'm just sayin'. Believe what you want.

I dig the bitchin stick on lettering on the aircleaner

  17. It says the guy added a bunch of his own personal touches. They may not be in good taste but to each his own. The numbers matching ,factory original equipment is what counts. If Ford bought it for the amount described then I believe it is what they say it is. I doubt Ford itself would make such a blatant mistake.....okay the Pinto and the Edsel might be an arguing point.

They must have gave the dude the cash to stop him from ruining it any further. Here is 800k now stop it.

  19. Putting aside the truthfulness of the factory "options" for a moment, I don't honestly see FoMoCo paying $860,000 (roughly) for this truck. Why? What's it mean to them in a historical sense? At most it's a truck with a lot of options and a lot of extra aftermarket accessories. Neat, maybe, but not THAT neat. Truthfully, even at $50,000 I still don't see the significance to Ford Motor Company.

    The first production '64 Mustang...the LeMans-winning GT-40...sure.

Sounds like April 1st to me...

Seems if it was so rare it would have been "restored" to original. Nice truck but not 800k and a 350 dually. Where is the other one?

I'll believe Ford Motor Company bought it when I hear/read it from them.

  22. $800K or not its still one godamn ugly truck. I like em way better with 40-41 sheetmetal.

  23. I agree, jealousy and stupidity go hand and hand.

  24. No small wonder the big three automakers were/are in such dire straits, if they can justify spending that kind of money for this.

  25. I've got the other one...I'm gonna hold out for a million, and a 350 dually of course.

Us older guys who have known people that were around for the end of WW2 know that post war nobody could order anything from the factory. The factories were producing all they could and you got on a lis$$t with your local dealer and waited for anything with wheels to show up that they would sell you.

And noboby did anything to a truck in 1947 except use it for work,.

    Total BS.
Oh, how come this truck don't have the rare factory AC system, too.? lol.

  27. The story sounds somewhat believable, but the price is a load. More like 80k.... even at that price they paid too much for a 47 ford PU.

    Edit:

I read the article and basically Mike Lynch's mailman said that he sold his ford pu for 800k.... geez. So basically one source and it's printed on the interweb..

Sounds like my neighbor when i was a kid said that Michael Jordan taught him to shoot free-throws.... then why did he suck so bad?

Some one went through the trouble to type in all those words and included some pictures too so it must be true!
