This may be a dumb question but here goes. I'm no stranger to paint and body work but I'm getting ready to do my first traditional custom. I'm wanting to french the headlights on my 58 ford custom 300. I realize I'll have to devise a way to make the lights removable from the backside. Anybody got any ideas or pictures that might show me the best way to go about this. Thanks, Greg

From what ive heard you have to take the headlight rings off and install them backwards so when you screw the bucket in you do it from inside the fender.

IM not sure on a 58 but 49-51 types theres a lip on the flange of the headlight bucket.
You grind it flat all the way around and then when it installs on the inside of the fender its a snug fit, just as if it was on the outside.

On my 48 Studebaker I bolted them in from the inside. Drill a small hole in back of each adjusting screw and cut a slot in the back of screws so you can adjust them. You can put a small plug in the hole to keep water out. Old school.

you could always do like I did, weld a bolt throught the mounting holes, trim the lip off the stock headlight bucket and slide them in from the back of the fender...that way they are flush since they only move back the thickness of the mount which is only 18 gauge steel i believe.
