So ive been doing body work on my moms little hot rod for the last week or so. im about done and it will be off to paint on monday. But how in the hell do u get rid of all this dust. they garage looks like a dust storm just blew thru town. its a mess. i cant just go and hose it down. its 30 out and i have **** that cant get wet. what have you guys done after doing body work in your shop/garage Thanks Bryan
When it is time to clean it all up I turn on every fan in the shop and bring in a few box fans. Then I get a longreach blower and a ladder and start at the top with the blower and brush. get it airborne and hope the airflow ****s it out. After everything that is up off the floor is cleaned then I hose down the floor(actually I have a spray that makes dust clump up and not get airborne that I use in my paintbooth after it has been cleaned) then I sweep the floor. This process usually gets the shop fairly clean. About once a year I take a look at everything that is really dusty and decide if I still need it.
Open the doors and find some fans! (Air-moving fans...not people who want your autograph!) A broom? Hey...since when did YOU worry about a MESS, anyhow???
Wait till nightfall, then crank up your leaf blower, open the door, and blow all that sh*t out into the neighborhood. It's good that it's winter, you won't have to worry about it wafting into your neighbor's houses. Congratulations. You just created your own "dust factory". Well...it has to come from somewhere, doesn't it? Why else do they make "Pledge"?
My vote is for the leaf blower. That's what a friend of mine uses to clean out his shop, it makes one hell of a dust cloud!
the fans work great, but nothing can beat an old shop broom...just take long sweeps and push as far forward as you can...in one continuous motion... i didn't get to help out on cars a lot, but i was sure good at sweeping, wiping down, picking up and putting away tools... trust me...
well the broom works good for the floor but i had to take the whole care to 220 so every thing has a red dust on it im going to have to find a leaf blower and go to town. i wouldnt worry about it but every thing i touch i get a nice red coating of dust on me after. guess i should have coverd my shelves up with some plastic first eh Thanks for the help guys id post some pics of the progress but its to mullet for the hamb Bryan
Just wait till Spring................you'll still have lot's of sanding to do on the Chevy..............no sense in doing it twice. Can't wait to see that chopped 50 done and on the road!
i put down sweeping compound first..its like speedy dry tha has moisture in it.... about 20.00 for a small bucket
Hell with the breeze we had today(along with a little blowing snow for good measure, just open all the doors and let nature take it's course. I usually keep the doors CLOSED in my garage in the warm weather because our street is like a wind tunnel.A couple years ago in May they had a phenomenon called,"horizontal wind shear" accompanied by hail the size of golf balls come through our neighborhood;destroyed 3 of my cars and most of the siding on my new garage and the house. I was DRIVING the Safari through it and the only damage was a couple of dings in the roof and the stainless around the windshield. I vote for nature every time!
I just tell my wife that I took my wedding ring off so I wouldn't ruin it while sanding. Now I can't find it. Once she has cleaned the whole garage looking for it, then I realize I left it on my night stand. Only works once though.
