EAB Flatheads, Tell me about 'em

How are the EAB Flatheads different than the others. I believe they were used in the '51 & '52 pickups. Any difference in the displacement or stroke etc.

If the heads are marked EAB that is only the designation for the heads. Introduced in 1952 on the ford cars and trucks they were smaller combustion chambers than previous heads yielding a higher compression ratio for some power increase. All Fords (not Mercs) after 1948 were 239 cuin with 3-3/16" bore and 3-3/4" stroke. Actually this is also true for the 46 thru 48 Ford cars and trucks from 1946 tru 1947. The trucks used the 8RT engine beginning in 1948.

The Mercs carried the same bore as the Fords but went to 4" stroke in 1949. There were no differences in the basic blocks from 1948 in the trucks and 1949 in all passenger cars until they stopped production in late 1953.

And IF it is an EAB, it had a somewhat hotter cam than earlier ones, no hardened valve seats, and rotator valves to compensate for that...all valve hardware is different, but complete assemblies interchange with earlier. Some truck engines still got valve seats.
