Anyone have any experience with or know anything about Glasurit paint products ? I have a friend who swears by them and has his roadster painted with a one part (no clearcoat) Glasurit paint and it is beautiful and has held up surprisingly well over the years. http://www.glasurit.com/
I had one car painted slightly pale yellow with Glasurit 1K acrylic and it worked fine. It covered and dried well. We ended up with some orange peel but I don't blame the paint for that. Our "booth" was a large octagonal white tent. It was tough to see when painting because we didn't have anything but daylight and the fumes were tough. I and my friend with paint gun were both yellow after that session. That was early 80's so I'm not sure if the paint is anymore same. It may be environmentally and health safer now than then.
I worked at a GM dealer that used to us it.They claimed that it worked the best of all the brands that they had tried.
Haven't used it in years, but was always a high end product. It use to be Porshe's factory paint , not sure if it still is. Distributed through RM here in Canada
Don't forget if you are planning on buying in Canada that the product he used will more than likely no longer be available due to the new waterbourne laws.
The paint though pricey, holds up extemely well. We used the paint in our collision shop for about four years. We never had any come backs due to paint failure such as fading, peeling, etc. We painted the front end of a VW Jetta through an insurance claim. We replaced the hood, bumper, headlite and rt fender. The car was out of the shop for about three weeks when the teenage driver hit a parked car. The car came back to the shop and we noticed though the hood was followed at 90 degrees the paint never cracked. We used the hood as a bragging tool (showing insurance companies, potential customer and just others in the business). We would still be using the paint but the cost just keep going up. Danny
They must have or be developing some new paints ? That would be as good ? Where would the old style product be available ? Environmentalists
The new stuff is all water based and a little more difficult for the home guy to use and I don't think they do any single stage products (I may be wrong on that). At this point you may try a RM distributor (Carlson Body Shop Supply in Alberta) to see if they have any left or can point you in the right direction but technically they are not allowed to sell it anymore in Canada. You may have to get it out of the U.S. but I have no idea if companies can ship the old style products into Canada legally either.
My friend has a nice bodyshop , handles the local Mercedes , Bmw dealers and lots of high end work . All he uses is Glasurit (Gl***o they call it)
If the old style paint is available still in the US then there is no problem. I drive down Texas way on a somewhat regular basis and would just bring home in the trunk whatever I needed. I plan to have someone do the paint work for me so that isn't a problem. I would like to be able to use a good quality one part paint. As I said environmentalists
The jobbers can still sell it until the end of the year. They just can't buy any from the manufacturers. Endura is still an option for single stage paint and is tough as nails or you can PM me and we can explore some other options.
Yup but that's not much time and most have tried to really liquidate their stock so they don't get hung with any so you will be hard pressed to get much in the way of selection at this point.
It is ot, but I painted my amx in my 1 car lean too garage with an infared heater above the car. An extnsion cord was on top the heater and melted and shorted out! Ashes fell from the sky on my second coat!!! I just kept spraying. THe car looks great, and has since 1997! I have driven it to Daytona twice in the winter, so she is no garage queen either....No idea on the water stuff, but I love their urethane.
great paint used it for years. expensive! 22 line is single stage 54 line bc/cc . had it on my wife's '66 stang, totaled in a wreck, paint hung on . sat out under a tree for two years paint still looked good.
