50 Changes in 1950

We were discussing at breakfast one morning about how Ford Motor Company advertised 50 changes in the 1050 Ford when it came out..

I will start change #1 as removing the the external fuel cap in the left rear quarter and putting it behind a flush filler door.

Let's start naming and numbering them and see if we can come up with all 50.
Here we go...

#1- Fuel Door.

 

#2 Front tun signals

 

#3- Internal trunk hinges

 

#4 outside door handles...push button

 

The Ford logo on the front of the hood

 

Dash knobs.

 

-Bumpers were beefed up a bit
-Bumper guard design was changed slightly too

"Despite the lack of large-scale change for 1950, Ford advertised that it had implemented "50 improvements for 1950." This was less a marketing campaign than it was a damage-control measure; customers complained of dozens of quality problems with the 1949 Ford. "For at least the first six months, that car had more bugs than a Bowery flophouse," noted an article in SIA #139, January-February 1994. The author noted complaints about inadequate hood bracing, water leaks in the windshield and doors, knobs that fell clean off the dash, doors that didn't fit well at all and trunklids that popped open randomly. The "50 Ways New" campaign appeared to correct most of those problems."

The article also said that 49's had 10.25 in. brake Drums and the 50's had 10.75 in... yeah I cheated.

 

The 51 had the internal hinges..the 50 still had the hinges on the exterior

 

Trunk lock and handle.

 

but the hinges were different so that still counts.

 

Learned this from shoebox Chris and I bet no one else even knew this.

#12...On the 49s the hood latch plate had oval access holes to get to the horns. In 50 they changed to round holes.

 

wasnt 50 the only year for the "custom deluxe club coupe?"

#16..... glove box lock

#17..... clocks were different (the wind up indicator changed location from lower left to upper right)

#18.... window garnish trim emblems changed
