Jungle Pam looks great and right at home hanging around the funny cars. FYI...that's Mickey's son Danny Thompson in the Assult 1.
It was a pretty good event. The Cacklefest car count was down, but the spectator count was way up. That made it kind of a pain when you were walking around trying to look at stuff. The weather was nice, and whoever set the schedule of events was right on the money. The Cacklefest went off without a hitch and we were walking out the gate at 6:30. In the past, there was always a 45 minute span between the time they paraded the cars in front of the stands until they lit 'em up. The Cacklefest always took forever to finally get going. And to second the above comment on the Tom Hanna car. That thing is an absolute work of art. I thought his blue car was incredible, but the red car set the standard even higher. He is truly a craftsman. Finally, Mike Boyd in the Winged Express put on a driving exhibition that was beyond words. He lined up in the left lane against the Bradford Family Fiat, and during the burnout, the car got completely crossed up, and Mikey stayed in the gas and crossed the lanes at about the 250ft mark, and passed Bradford ON HIS RIGHT, between the Bradford's car and the K-rail. He backed the car up like nothing happened, and both cars ran nearly identical times (Boyd: 7.27, Bradford: 7.29) and Boyd carried the front wheels about 2" off the ground THE ENTIRE 1320 FT! It ranks up there as one of the most bad-ass runs I have ever seen in drag racing. Mike Boyd is a freakin' driver. Wild Willie would have been proud.
Boyd is fabulous! The Winged Express is the most imprssive car I've ever seen on a dragstrip, no matter what et's and MPH. It is just in a class of its own!
That is one GREAT LOOKING FED!!! Pure eye candy. Personally I like the maroon-tone but that's just me.
great stuff, I had to leave early, so I'm glad I can enjoy your photos from later in the day!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHRR was great......anyone talking "got to have a HEMI crap" ........well there were plenty to purchase, all cubic inches, many probably ran......did not see any changing hands thou.....Magnesium rims and Hemis...sums up the swap meet for me. next year must be Y-Blocks and 09's Great racing......Winged Express as mentioned above, put one on hell of a show, should be on the live feed video that was active.
Thanks for the pictures. I have been waiting to see the cacklefest action. I had a severe lack of funds this year but, hopefully I can get there next year to push again. Conor
As far as I know, Tom Hanna has one car. It was blue when first built and then painted red. It is a work of art. For those of you that don't know, the 59 Ranchero is a Porsche in disguise.
