1953 Merc, original motor but not trans. Origlinal interior just needs headliner, carpet and panels, seats still look new other than 1 tear. Original wheel covers and origianl paint under primer and under white roof. So should I restor it or just say screw it and make it a kustom? I just want to finnish it to sell it for the most money, im getting married next november and could use the cash more than another car.
My thoughts exactly.I have always liked these 52-54 Mercs as a custom. Not a 49-51 but a close 2nd and way better than a plain Ford from the era ...
Mild custom! Drive it for the wedding then sell it afterwards. The mild custom route will attract more buyers if you decide to sell.
mild custon. 350/350. sell the car. buy a model a coupe and use that merc flathead to build a hot rod.
if you're just gonna flip it, why bother at all. Use the money to buy some o/t cars and flip those instead. A for sale sign is a hell of a lot cheaper than reworking that old merc. After the wedding, use that wedding money to get something you really want.
well the problem is that im going to be moving to austin in a few months and i still have 3 other cars to finnish also. I would sell it to get the car i want but i just bought my dream car for the wedding, 1963 lincoln. For the merc i just need to sling some paint" body is perfect" a few interior pieces that my soon to be can sew up and make and drop it.
because he sounds like he's planning to flip it. 350/350 is quick, easy, & cheap. the most likely folks to buy this car will be looking on CL and don't/won't understand the philosphy that we here on the hamb subscribe to. 350/350 will be the most profitable way to turn the car, saving the $ and merc flathead for a hamb friendly car for himself. i'd never suggest the 350/350 for use by a hamber in his own rod but that doesn't sound like the plan of attack. and a great many of the people who might buy this car off of the local newspaper want ads or cl will probably swap out the flathead for a 350 anyway; not realizing the value of a merc flathead. then, God forbid, the flattie might even wind up in the landfill.
Wow. So many opinions. The fact that it's got four doors seems to matter to most guys. Just sayin'. Still a cool car.
NO, don't restore it. Being a more door is going to lower the FOR SALE price. I say, sell it now for a little profit before you start putting money into it thinking it's going to sell for more - when in reality it will not - at least not in today's market.
