Most closed cars of the late '20's early '30's had woodgrained dash and window garnish mouldings, have you ever seen a Roadster with a wood grained dash? I've always liked dark cherry cabinets, wonder how a '32 Ford Roadster dash would look woodgrained?

  4. A lot of dodges and plymouths had them into the 50's, alot of ero cars had real walnut into the early sixties. I dont like it, i think fake **** is to fake looking.

  9. Look at some of the old cl***ic cars. European and hi dollar American stuff for inspiration.

I think it all depends on the build. Is the car more resto than period traditional? Try it. It's only abit of paint and time. If you don't like it, it's a easy fix.

Why not? Woodgraing is cl***y and traditional.

Maybe not the whole thing. Posibly just an insert with about an inch of painted dash panel showing on the outside edge, with a nice little pinstripe to clean up the edge . You also need to find a good woodgrainer .

'37, I'm sure you won't be building the primered with red wheel roadster, so go for it with the woodgrain. I know you've probably done it before but talk to JDee on here for his kit. He's my old neighbor from Hershey flea market, owns Wood-Grain-It. His videos make it look too easy.

There's a roadster in the Twin Cities that had a custom soot and wax woodgrain finish done on the dash, if I recall correctly it looked like walnut...you REALLY had to look close to realize it wasn't wood, and being that it was a stock style steel dash, it fit perfectly and looked OEM...and it's about as traditional of a method as it gets using an oxy/acetylene setup to do it...

Cars with tops got the woodgrain treatment, roadsters or verts usualy did not because of fading issues.......it's not real hardy.

Ok, That answers my question, I'll get a Wood-Grain-It kit. Thanks for the photo. Next thing is dash cluster or individual gauge hole layout?[IMG]

I had Bob Kennedy ( Whittier CA ... 562-693-8739 ) to woodgrain my 32 3W dash and the garnishes ...
I am thinking about taking the black painted dash out of my 32 Roadster and sending it to Mr. Kennedy ... for the woodgrain treatment.

    :D

Just thought I would post this link I have had bookmarked forever. He make woodgrain look really simple.

His sample looks like pine with lots of space between the rings, but I dont see why one couldnt use a different comb for a tighter grain pattern.

This is JDee's site. FWIW, JDee says woodgraining was an entry level job, no experiance neccesary.
