Just saying Hey to my new HAMB neighbors here in O.C. After always wanting to move to the HotRodding, Motorcycling and Surfing mecca of the world the time was right to leave Maine and here I am in in sunny SoCal. Rite now all my buddys back there have all put there cars/bikes away for the next 6 months of hybernation.... I on the other hand dont need to do that anymore!! I am looking forward to all the great things California has to offer (even during the bad economy). So maybe ill catch some of you guys around at your local events...watch for my black Chev!!! Heres a shot of what I dragged 3400 miles across country!
Sooo jealous! I moved from so cal to west texas about two years ago!!!! Still going through so cal car scene withdrawl

Welcome to Costa Mesa!. I've been here for 30+years. You really must go the the every Saturday morning Donut Derelects FREE car show in Huntington Beach at Adams and Magolia starting at about 5:30am. GREAT SHOW.

Forget that BS. Make an appointment to get your cars changed over to Cal. plates and its no big deal. At least we got rid of the make the rich richer and screw the average joe republicans.
you will get a chance to put more mileage on your chevy now that you're here in socal. great weather to drive around just about any day. welcome to so.cal!
Cool..speaking of plates, whats the deal with the old vintage style plates here..Id love to get my hands on a set of black an yellow tags or maybe a 54 year plate...Maine lets u display antigue plates as long as u have a bill of sale from the plates owners..basically bullshit as u can get away with about what ever u want there and registering cars..I kow here there alot more rules n regs..any thoughts??
I have a '64 Fairlane with black and yellow plates. They are original to the car. How you would get a set I don't know. If you ask here you'll get 75 ways to do it. I would suggest the DMV. I've never had a problem with the DMV. I'm getting to believe that people that whie about the DMV go in there without any paperwork, with wrong paperwork, or something that isjust plain illegal and expect the DMV to overlook everything. Make an appointment. It make life sooooo much easier. Welcome to SoCal. And remember that after one winter here you can't go home (and you probably won't want to). Oh yeah efore I forget. El Mirage is 2 hours from Costa Mesa. And Beach Burgers on Beach Blvd makes a pretty good burger. You can eat it sitting in a '49 ford (reasonable facsimile).
I will make the most of it for sure man!!! After growing up in New England its hard not to enjoy it...just seeing the sun all the time is good w me! Firingorder....Thanx for all the info!
You are more than welcome. One thing you should be warned about is our "storms". All the stations here refer to any form of incoming rain (which fortuantely is not very often) as "an approaching storm". I lived in Ireland for a while and I know what a storm is as I'm sure you do from your time in New England. Its really quite funny to listen to Dallas Raines ranting on about the "storm" while the picture is of a bit of water running in a gutter. You're already at the beach. Palm Springs is a couple of hours away. In a couple of months you'll be able to drive up to the mountains and play in the snow. Then zip home and surf before dinner. A short drive down PCH will get you to San Onofre. Pay a visit to surf beach. Its one of the few beaches that didn't get developed. Its just a simple cool laid back beach. We spent a few days there after Bonneville. One of the days had about a dozen woodies show up. Despite all the naysayers here if you want you can have the time of your life here.
Welcome. I'm just north of ya in Orange. My Mom just moved from Mesa Verde in Costa Mesa to H.B. Grew up in Newport so I know you'll love it in Costa Misery. As for the License Plates, it's really quite simple. It's the YOM (Year of Manufacture) program. You need to buy a set of good condition original plates for the car that are DMV clean. In your case that will be a set of 1951 plates. You fill out the necessary paper work at DMV and when they OK them, They will then give you a 54 metal tag to go on them, along with the proper stickers. Check with oldpl8s on here or his site http://www.oldpl8s.com/ Enjoy
Welcome to SoCal, Spent some time in Maine '71-'75. Remember it was always a bummer trying to get my car to start when it was 20 below in February. If it didn't catch right away you were stuck waiting for the plugs to clear and hoping that the battery would hold on. I also swear I could see the cars rotting out on the dealer lots!
Im sorry I cant completely agree on this one, I got food poisoning at this place.. Although I will agree sittin in that red shoebox feels pretty neat.
