Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by MrManz, Feb 18, 2005.

  1. So im on my way back to work from my lunch brake. Im stopped at a stop sign and i see a buddy of mine he waves and i rev it up and wave. Cop jumps in behind me and pulls me over. Im like ok... ill get yelled at. Cop walks up says nothing asks for my info. Doesnt say anything and walks off. literally 15 min later he comes back and gives me a ticket for modified exhaust. And i look at him and ask how he knows it modified. I do how ever have 2 glass packs, but it is legal on cars pre 1974 to have some type of muffler on a car and glass packs qualify. But here is the best part. My car is to low for him so he doesnt want to look when i ask him to. So i say ok where is your decible meter. Cause i know i am under what is leagal becuase i had this happen befor. He says he doesnt want to check it. So i ask him then how he knows it illegal. He says he doesnt know, but i have spark plugs in my exhaust. So it is modified. I laughed at him and said ok and that i will see him in court and took off. Sorry im a little pissed but its just lame they dont even do their damn job and check.

oh dude!! fight it ALL the way...you know, for ricky racer cars, sure, i laugh when they get pulled over for illegal modifications...cuz they DO have them...

but on an old car...first off..most cops are soooo unfamiliar with items that were stock, or not, where parts are, etc. so for him to tell you what you had w/o looking...yea, i would have made a big deal then and there...

it sucks that you had your time wasted though!!

you know, that was one of the only things i liked about UT. unless you actually did something so hideously wrong, old cars were never pulled over...

I've gotten out of 3 tickets by just showing up for court... cops don't want to have to go to court. They no-show and you're off!

Thats makes your exhaust modified ya goober..pay the ticker and move on. you got cought showing your ass!!

  7. Thats funny. Yeah im definatly going to court. Its just stupid. I can understand pulling me over and sayingdont do that. But it wasnt ridicusly loud. and i wasnt doing burn outs. I was just going back to work. We will see if he shows. The thing that i dont get, is every damn time i see a cop i wave. There are a few cops in town that know me and my car and they all say show me your flames when i see them. The all love it. I dont get why this guy had to have such a stick up his ass. He didnt even look. All he did was see my spark plugs, WHICH DONT EVEN HAVE THE WIRES ATTACHED!

  8. the way the law is written modifed exhaust is modifying the sound of your exhaust system. If what you are saying is true that would mean having tips on your exhaust would count as modified exhaust.

That's worked for me too. If he does show up, you have a slam dunk case anyway so make sure you waste as much of his time as possible!

If you hung drapes from your pipes it would be "modified" but "modified" isn't a synonym for illegal! Those spark plugs would only get you in trouble if you were burning his shiny cop boots while he wrote down your plate number!;)

Not in my town. Any Rockport cop that writes a ticket WILL be in court- no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

I've been told by a Sgt. at a local PD that they get paid for going to court, so I really don't think they mind.

i hate to say it but ..... it is modified ...and you got caught .....own it dude...you fucked up ...try to fight it you will lose ....just pay the ticket .......yes some cops like it and don't hassle you . that doesn't make it legal ...modified as the law sees it is any other way than stock .....jesus , if you would have honked your horn you ''could'' have gotten a ticket .because in california AND most states you can't just go around honking your horn ....yes it sucks but get over it ......in my old ford i had many warnings about my exhaust . iwas only LUCKY i never got the ticket ......

I agree that reving your engine is sometimes stupid, but he's not even moving so it's strange how that's a "driving" habit.

i think burn outs and reving your engine has to be done in a pre-designated area. otherwise, you're asking to get pulled over.

I'd fight the ticket .A friend of mine got stopped in his 50 merc because he had blue dots on his taillights ,got a ticket and fought it in court and won.I drive all over Dallas regularly with my cutouts opened.I havent got stopped yet,but if and when I do I will fight it.I dont see how people can ride Harleys around with straight pipes and I shouldnt be able to.Noise is noise whats the difference?

  23. the dont take checks. Cash my friend. And im really happy to see that none of you do burnouts, or have modified exhaust or anything that draws attention to your cars. I guess the cool cars i have been seeing arent yours. My fault. Sorry.

good luck man. Santa Cruz county cops ALWAYS show up for court and not to many cases go the way of the citizen. I've been in a few times myself for stupid crap.

    where were you?

My brother got pulled over 18 times in santa cruz. Given 7 breathalizer test and passed and drove off with no tickets every time. Most of the times where on the corner of ocean where Fast Eddie's is.

They got him once. He was wasted...kneeling in his car taking stuff out of the glove box. He was parking it there. The cop asked him if he had been drinking...he said yes. Asking him if he ws drunk he said yes. Asked if he was gonna drive..he said no way. The cop didn't believe that he would leave his car there..he said..man everyone knows who's car this is..it will be fine. The cop arrested him. Lets just say that in court..the officers were not to stoked when the judge lit into him for harassment. Same officers pretty much every time. Kind of hard to not know the car. Pink and White 55 chevy.

So you can win...from time to time. The judge is cool and generally fair. It's just that the cops ALWAYS show.

So best of luck. Get your car decible meetered so you'll have it in court. The more prepared you are the better.

How much is the ticket? Aren't speeding tickets in Cali like $600?

So if he didn't check anything, how does he know there's spark plugs in the pipes? If he could plainly see them from behind your car, then you'll most likely lose in court. And judges are more apt to fine you to the full extent if you fight a ticket & lose.

Its sucks, but I think the cop's "within" the law here. Next time look around before you rev your motor. The "Fast & the Furious" crowd has done alot of damage to the modified car owners reputation. Revving the engine at a stop when the cop is right there implies that you'd have done more if he weren't around.

    Good luck.

  27. i know that car. I live in scotts valley. And the cops around here never hassle meat all. I am the only person with a old car that crusies around this small town. There are a few others but no regulars. And this cop was just in abad mood. But its cool. I used to be what you all call a tuner. I had my riced up honda and i got pulled over all the damn time. But most of the time when i go to traffic court i have never had people show up. I have awlays gotten it dropped. That has happened like 4-5 times for me so im not to worried.

ok, now when i write this, remember, i posted here 2nd and was on YOUR side, deal? :D

you shouldn't take it so hard, the ones that don't agree with you...i mean, afterall, while modified may not mean illegal, under the law, they are implying that it IS somewhat illegal, because you have taken the stock car/parts, which were designed as such to have safety in mind, and have changed it...so you have altered the integrity of said vehicle (i was just talking to a cop buddy of mine, btw); sooooo....in short, if the cop felt that you were posing some kind of threat to your safety or that of other motorists, then he is right by his badge to cite you.

you blew it by showing off...whether you meant to or not, be prepared, IF the cop shows, he may say that...and well...if you are asked point blank in court, under oath, are you going to say you DON'T have modified exhaust, since you know you have something rattling around that's different?

i hope you win...i really do cuz i think this guy was trying to meet his "quota," just be prepared...and whatever you do...maintain your calm...you seem to be losing it here...:)

Dude fight if you want but I was told when I bought my kit that flamethrowers were not even legal to own in Cali in a complete kit. That's why you have to buy stuff seperate to complete the kit.

I'm pretty sure that's how they get you too... Modified exhaust.

    What's it like a $15 fix-it ticket, or what?

    Andrew,

Sorry man, I'm usually willing to take anyone's side when it comes to being hassled by the man, BUT he wrote you up for spark plugs in your exhaust tips - which is illegal - NOT because of your glasspacks. Not because of decibels. Not for revving your engine. Just that.

Waste your time in court if'n you want, but you got busted for something that IS illegal.

Be glad he didn't want to look at anything else.

    Suck it up. move on.
