I just love this! When I was a kid I went to my father's gas station during the summers and on weekends. That was the late 60's mid 70's. I really brings back memories. He owned a Cheveron station in Groton CT. I remember pumping gas (93 octane with f-310 additive) into a lot of muscle cars that the guys on the sub base owned. It's a real shame most stations are now quickie marts.
I believe this station was in Goliad, TX, maybe Cuero or somewhere down south of me. I was on the return leg of a trip from Corpus Christi back to Austin and saw this station.
My grandfathers place in San Antonio. The pictures are from the late 40's and early 50's. It sat right in front of the Piggly Wiggly.
Go to http://www.hotrodchat.com/gallery/ then go to page 12 and 4 down is many old shots of service stations and a lot of other interesting photos. I also have pictures of the truck thats shown here but in another album.
I don't have a picture of it but Hemming's Motor News has a working "FULL SERVICE" old gas station at their headquarters in Bennington, Vermont. I was there and they clean your windows, check your oil and pump your gas out of old gas pumps that are revamped with modern internals. The original front repair bays were turned into a souvenir shop while the old repair bays that were added on in the back were turned into an automobile museum. Very cool, maybe someone has some pictures they could post.
My dad owns a bar in Princeton WI on the main highway that runs through town, Hwy 23/73 called Jim's Place. It was a gas/service station in the 30's. I saw an old black and white post card at a local antique store with a pic of the place on the front with a 30's Ford truck and a early 40's car out front. The card was from the owners personal collection and said he would make some copies. Never did, store closed. I would love to see some old pics of it. I have the old bell that would ding after you run over the air hose out front hanging in my gargae.
I've stayed in Shamrock, TX a couple of times coming across the country. They have a pretty cool old Conoco station that was restored.
We have an old Shell Station/feed store here in Issaquah Washington, that's been restored by the historical society, it's a wonderful place to snaps some photos. Enjoy my old Crusty Cruiser #1. The sweet little model is my grand daughter, she loves hanging out with me and my old trucks.
I was part of a photo shoot this morning which involved a restored Sinclair service station in Ft. Worth, Texas. Neat!
Here is a pic of my DeSoto in front of an old station here in Salinas. It was a photo lab, now its a bakery. Im glad they havent changed it much. <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://img40.imageshack.us/i/desoto017.jpg/'><img src='http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/7121/desoto017.jpg' border='0'/></a> Uploaded with <a target='_blank' href='http://imageshack.us'>ImageShack.us</a>
