I need to replace my clutch in the van. It has the 3 speed with the donut mount. Also, it's originally a 144 but was swapped with a 200. I thought it would be a 10" but after some research it may be a 8 1/2". Any input would be great!! ******Knuckles
Don't think anyone can answer that, as there is no such thing a a 61 200 (they came out in late 64 IIRC), so who knows what was mixed and matched. Pull it out and find out.
I appreciate your response but this van is my daily driver and before I dis***emble it I need to have the parts to re***emble. What I also need to know is what would the shaft size be and the spline count. I think the spline count is 10. Thanks again, ******Knuckles
Yeah, I understand you pain, but I really don't think there is any way to know for sure because of the swap. Otherwise you are just guessing. I know on my Econoline, with a 170 when we got it out it wasn't what all the books said it should be.
Being desperate to getting this fixed I pulled the trans and clutch. For what it's worth the clutch disk is an 8 1/2". I sent it off to Tennessee Clutch in Nashville. To have the clutch relined, pressure plate rebuilt and shipping $70. Sold. Should be here by the end of the week. ******Knuckles
This is a Hot Rod and Custom site, please take you off topic Van issues to the Vantastic 1970's message board.
A 61'-E100 is "OFF TOPIC"? then that means all the F-100's are also "OFF TOPIC"! better rethink that statement!
The HAMB is going to Hell in a handbag. Carry on, mean while I'll be looking for a '93 Caprice for Dustin to post here. Don't worry it'll be flat black to keep it on topic. On another note, finding the right clutch size is one of the hardest things to do on this site. You'll get different sizes from everybody. I looked around to find one for my Ford trans/265 combo and got everything from 9" to 10.5.
my 61 170 had a 8 1/2 and when i swapped it to a 68 200 with the 10. I had to custom fab a pilot bearing to match the imput shaft and modify the bearing retainer to fit the pilot bearing and bellhousing was a ***** but a fun project while in highschool
8 1/2 inch sounds right. Had a friend with a 61 E100 and thats what it took. They I think were that same as a Falcon with the same engine 144. His was stuck together after sitting for a long time so I just did the whole thing to know what we had. Michael
