I think that Chris had a cool car in the beginning. Then he wanted to change it and I tried to talk him out of it. He was very sure that it would be cool, and I did not believe him until seeing the end product.

I am very happy to have been a part of it, and I think that it will never be finished. It will never be done, and always evolving. That is what makes non-trailer queen hot rods so awsome. You are never done, and it could always use something different.

All I can say is, until you see the car, you cannot even get the full effect of the attitude that it know posesses. This car is Bad a--.

P.S. I will put all of my welds on the car against anybodys anyday. Dave

P.S.S. Cannot throw enough props to LYLE. He is the man

Oh yeah! I thought about putting one of those plastic sunday paper boxes on top of the carbs for a scoop. Anybody know where to get one? Ive got a hilborn style dual quad scoop, but I wanted to do something different. My Dad used to race gassers and slingshot dragsters back in the day and he gave me the paper box idea. One of his cars had one.

Cool! I just found this site where you can order the paper boxes. In different sizes and colors. Thers 18 standard colors and custom colors upon request. Check it out.

    http://www.continentalproducts.com/motor_tubes.php

Just called. Theyre available to the general public with a minimum $50 order. Waiting on a callback for pricing.

Well theyre only about $5 each, but you still have to make a $50 order:( So $50 for one or order 10 of them. I think maybe I'll try and track down an old one. It would be cool to get one that says Detroit something on the side. Thats where Im from originally and thats where my Dad built a lot of racecars.

I don't know about Reno, but around here there are farm/fleet stores like TSC, Bombgaars, Rushings, Campbell's Supply, etc... All of them have mailboxes like that. Although I don't know how much they cost, I can't imagine that they're all that much.

    Neat idear,

hey chris and dave, keep up the good work! just wondering what degree you set the axle at? it can be a handfull if it's not right. i set mine at 10 degrees and it rides like a cadillac(with a straight axle...) and goes right down the drag strip. hope this helps.

It is set as 7, as the instructions stated. Chris started a whole thread on the degree setting, and 7 for the street and 10 for the track was the conclusion. The engineers of the kit stated 7, so we went with that.

Maybe chris will drive it this weekend, and we will see if he can keep it out of the ditch. Dave

This would be the way I would build a chevy, around here they all seem to be customs or bombas. Nothing wrong with that, I just want to go fast.

correct me if I am wrong, but I thought all the gasser classes back in the day had to be street legal, with working equipment..ect?

I like the dark green, heavy flake would be cool.

I got one of these with my house. our local paper sucks so I took it down and and used it as a scoop for my model t. scoop looked cool, however stupid at the same time since it only had one 4bbl. with dual 4's it would look good.
also I sanded it pretty good, but had a hard time getting paint to stick to it.

so how about subscribing to your local paper?
they put a box up, keep the sub for a couple months, then the box disappears and you cancel the paper?:D

Heres a pic of me driving it home from Lovelock to Reno last August the day I got it. 105 degree weather, big hole in the firewall, bad tie rod ends and ball joints on both sides, completely busted windshield on the drivers side and 100 miles to drive that way. My eyes looked like rocky balboa from the heat and fumes by the time I got to Reno.

not digging the plastic paper box scoop idea (i guess ive seen too many of em on R**R**S ) but its yours so do it up if you like it

on the colors i like both the greens shown maybe the darker green on the bottom and the minty green for the top instead of the bare metal again its just my opinion

Everything can work, doesn't mean it has to be a dog.
Coming along fine with the car.

I like that video and the car sounds great! As a rolling billboard I believe you nailed it. Have you driven it on the road yet?

Not yet. Waiting on a pitman arm I had to order. It was cold when Dave started it so it didnt want to stay running at first. Still gotta do a few odds and ends. Paint the headers, remove the inner fenders from the front clip, get the exhaust all back together with gaskets, mount the steering box and hook up the column and steering cross bar, change the fuel pump, install shocks front and rear and a couple other little things. A cage will come soon thereafter.

A pic of the finished column drop, first pic was mock up.
You can also see how much he had to move the column down on the firewall to go under the headers. The fabbed brake pedal used to go right over the column in its old position.
