    (Nov. 1, 2010) Mystery Machine--What Is It?!?
Well as has happened since I opened the T2V shop fiberglass keeps finding me. Got a call on a RHD MG and went to get it as the price was right... Well here it is.
Is it an old Brit Gasser ? A movie car ? Custom? Has anyone ever seen the car ? Lots and lots of high quality glass work and interesting lines. The car is a MGB 1962-63 RHD the body is under the glass on 75% of the car a real moon tank and tilt front end chevy 396 on the side of the hood, has a chute box built into the car, brakes are on a lever, ladder bar go all the way to the bellhousing, and the engine mounts are for a high mount engine. All points to a 1960's altered or gasser, but the rear F4 aircraft air intakes are all wrong for a drag car ??? All input welcome.

Metal shapes nailed it. here is a link to the car in 1967

  2. Styling exercise.... Does it look like it had been completed/run at some point?
    Sorry... it's ugly.
How about a BBC/Toronado FWD in front and Porsche 911 in back?

  3. sounds like you got a good deal on a moon tank, 396 and maybe some ladder bars

it does have the 396 in it doesnt?......

That looks like Santa Pod in the early '70s, maybe. Also looks like the builder really wanted an E-Type, but could only afford an MGB!

I'm pretty sure I found those pics on a site with many old Drag Race pics & History from Santa Pod, England.
( I'll see if I can find it again )

    The car was called "Megalomania"

    Edit.

i like it. idk why but with some period correct goodies it could be meaaaaan.

  16. well... strip all the goofy fiberglass off the ass put regular mgb body work back on it leave the 396 and have some fun... the front looks good... but it looks like they inhaled all the vapor from the resin while building the front. I am all for rebodied mgb's but that is yikes...

I didn`t see what you were talking about at first, but yes a little over the top. Too much drag for a Drag car.

A few folks have said to me they remember the old FGR place in Bromley and seeing old flopper bodies outside ..
Did anyone ever visit, get a pic or two of it. Important prems I guess back in the day, that many important cars, bodies, motors built there.
My business was just round the corner from FGR in Shortlands.
Too many to list ,but here goes :
    Meglomania,
    Commuter
    Wheelie Stingray,
    Devon Cream(body),
    Ashphalt Alligator,
    Fast Lady ,
    Highway Patrol,
    The Needle,
    wheelie pickup.
    Gloworm ,
    Firefly.
Hustler (FC body, after Bootsie destroyed the original Gladiator one when it went over).
Several Reliant bodied cars (FGR repaired all the Reliant and Bond bodies locally)
I am sure there are some I've missed

So how did it get to Arizona??

What a find!!! We would all like to know the history of how it got from santa pod to Arizona! Love the pic on the website of the Pressed Steel Cowley badge as i was born less than half a mile from there and you could always see car transporters with painted MGB bodies on their way to Abingdon for final assembly. Sadly they make german mini's there now [IMG]

That car brings back lots of memories, like watching the industrial size khaki parachute gradually spilling out the back on one banzaii charge. I have a picture somewhere of Keith and Al Eckstrand standing by the car, and remember Al saying "Did I give you permission to take a photo." Glad he said it with a smile, as I was just about to apologise!
