I need help picking out a steering column that will fit my 64 f100 with a rack and pin (no box) and a 460.

I'm looking for an auto tilt column. Has anybody out there done this conversion or similar conversion?

Your help is greatly appreciated !
    :)

Btw, it's an 06 CV front suspension if that counts for anything.

    Thanks once again.

Isn't that front suspension way too wide? Any pics?

Being a '65 cab is almost identical to a '64, I used a '73 to '79 column on mine. I had to make spacers where it bolted to the dash but everything else was the same

73 -79 truck column? And if all it needs is spacers it shouldn't be a big deal.
I'm just looking for an easy but nice swap.

    Thanks

  7. I used a Flaming River in this one. 460 set back 8", Corvette front and rear.

Hey FoMoCo, what backspace, diameter, and width did you end up with in the front? Got any new pictures?

How can it be kind of narrow? Stock width front end is 61.5 inches wide. 03 and up crown vic is at least 64 inches wide. I am building a 62 short uni and looked into the crown vic but I wanted my truck to sit low. I still haven't seen any pics of one with the cv swap that has looked right. Someone post some pics of one that looks right. Nothing is worse than a full fendered car or truck that has too wide of a front track width. Hey hotroddon we are talking about crown vic suspension not corvette.

Still no pics with the front sheet metal on. I guess it depends on what look you're going for. I wanted mine low. I don't think you can get real low with that setup. Here is a mock up pic of mine with camaro sub, 472 caddy, c-notch original rear suspension.

Since your using a R&P seems like almost any used or aftermarket tilt colunm would be adaptable. Getting kinda hard to find but i use to look for pre 68 GM tilt columns, nice and clean with no key.
FWIW I'm looking for a stock 61/64 steering column with the automatic. If your old one happens to be one and you still have it I'll buy it!

Those columns are almost impossible to find. And yes mine does have one but the guy who had it welded an odd shift handle to it and now jumps out of park with the smallest touch.

  20. Sorry, I mis-read CV to mean Corvette - my bad.

I agree, the crown vic clips are becoming a popular choice on these lately, I just don't care for them to be honest, they never seem to fit right, I used a clip from a 90s Chevy 1500, strait toward install, great fitment, and the price of free, plus you get 1/2 ton truck suspension compared to a passenger car
