Please add a 1 piece top hood section to my roadster. I am thinking of making one and would like a preview. Many thanks!!
Hey Jasonic, Thanks a lot!! I do like it with..........but I think I'm with you, I really like it best without. It's kinda one of those things thats hard to make up my mind. One thing in favor of without is, it's already like that! Thanks again,
Jon, I can't make up my mind which way I like my car best. So I do all three ways. No hood, top only and winter hood. (the winter hood has been louvered and is currently in the paint shop).
Hey Jon the roadster looks great. Any chance you could email me a larger copy of that photo? I'd like to see more detail. Thanks, Dan
Hi Paul, Your's looks good all three ways.........and you got them covered, no pun intended. HA I cant use stock hood because I stretched the engine bay in order to get the 8BA in. I'll probably make up a 1 piece top section and use when the mood strikes me. Another reason is that when I run it a little hard I get a few drops of oil on the windshield from the breather which is a small aggravation that a hood would help. Thanks for the pics!
Don't put a hood on it unless you lower the radiator shell a couple inches first. The photo shopped hood is going up hill...Line up a straight edge along the belt line and see what I mean. BITCHIN looking HOTROD by the way!!!!
Hey Rick. Thanks for your input. On the subject of wheels and caps, I was planning small caps and when the time came they were pretty cookie cutter as everyone was going that way. I do like them but I wanted to express more what I would have had in the late 50s and that dictated the whole "look". The full moon disks with medium width white walls were very popular on the streets then. I also do have a top which is a little more "Stroker McGurk" style. Thanks again,
Hey Dr, Thanks for the compliment! Yeh. I saw right away in the pic that it didn't line up and in my opinion distracts from the stance when the hood is on. Thanks for your input!!
Wheel style definitely sets the period for these hot rods. With regard to hoods, I'm partial to the lid -- it unifies the car, makes it look finished. Mike
I hear what you are saying Mike but, damn Jon, I think your first picture is just about perfect. mighty fine automobile you got there! Paul
AV8jon, Your sweet little roadster is one of the nicest i ever seen. I like the combo, rake, wheels, color and engine. This is a hotrod, the oil on the windshield is a bonus. (even if i know it's frustrating) Try to fix the breather instead or what cause the problem. Otherwise i agree with that opinon to lower Your shell before You attache a hood.
Mike, That 3/4 front shot of bluey really got me to thinking again. I agree, the hood has a very unifying affect on the whole thing. I'll probably come up with one and use when Im in the mood. I've got the article that you did in American Rodder for good reference. By the way, glad your F1 engine turned out so much better than it sounded like it might!! Thanks for the comments,
Paul and Thor, Thanks so much for the kind words. It's especially meaningful to me to be hearing that from guys like you, as you both understand exactly the statement I intended to make by building it the way it is. In 59 I was underway with a project very similar to this but was severely underfunded and had to sell it. I was so happy when Drake repopped the Pontiac tailights as that was what I had. With inspiration from the Bishop/Tardel book I was really able to finish a project that began in 59. It was a blast building and certainly a blast to drive. Thanks again guys,
