Just picked up a '59 Thunderbird and I'm trying to figure out what some of the engine codes mean. The guy I bought it off of said the motor was a 1966 390.

    Water Pump - C8AE
    Heads - C7AE-A
Block (next to the starter) - 66ME-A

I really appreciate any help you could offer or any tips.

    Thank you for your time.

Don't recognize the block#,but the heads are 67. C is for sixties, 7 as in 67.That's all I got.

It's likely that block casting is actually C6ME-A. If the heads are C7AE-As and are original, it is likely a 67 motor. Water pumps often get changed over the years and may not match numbers wise. You'd have to get the date codes off all the major casting to find out exactly what year motor you have.

Based on what you gave, again I'd guess a '67.

what he said. double check that 66ME-A number, see if it's really C6ME-A which is the casting number for a 66 or so 390 block.

The exact date is hard to tell from the casting numbers, as is the size. There are casting date codes on some engines, look for a number-letter-number sequence such as 6E15 and you may need to measure the bore and stroke to be sure what the displacement is.

as someone said most likely a 67 engine. I have 4 C6ME-A blocks and are all 352's

Just look for the block date code which is cast in block near the oil filter adaptor
