Yup. I have on in mine. It works just fine cooling a 305. Cheap.

I have an aluminum 65 mustang radiator in mine.

  5. My money was spent with Portell Radiator in Missouri. I'm mostly satisfied. I had a local radiator shop attach an original A "filler neck" to be able to have a stock type rad cap on top but to be non-functioning.
I bought the copper version instead of aluminum. With a mildly warmed 327 Chevy, it does pretty decent with cooling. I can't complain if I'm driving 75 mph in 98 degree air temp with high Arkansas humidity for over 100 miles and the temp gauge shows around 205.

I just received Ford 5000 tractor radiator and it's a bit taller and fits the 29 shell a lot better than a mustang in my 28........

  7. Its funny but there is more to cooling a car that just finding a radiator that will fill the hole.

    Do a search.

    Doc.

Try PRC they make several stock radiators and I have had two custom made for my projects.

We know. In this case, the $150 radiator will do the job of the $750 one, just fine.

Nobody says everyone has to like it.

I did a search and that's why I chose the tractor radiator.....

  14. Yea Doc but its a start. ;)

The Mustang V-8 radiator is the cheapest route. Or if you look you can find a suitable Model A repop radiator also.

  15. yup... or you can have a original one re-cored.

Pulling up an old thread here, but searching for information on a radiator that will work in a 30/31 Model A shell. A couple threads, including this one, mentioned a Ford 5000 tractor radiator. I searched and found dimensions on that particular radiator and the core is 17 3/4" X 17 3/4". Now the width is pretty good, but the core height would be 3-4" too short for a 30/31 shell opening. Do you gentlemen using that radiator just let the tanks show or did I find incorrect information?

Several threads also mention using/recommending a Mustang radiator for a Model A. The dimensions I found on those are also way off for coming close to filling the vertical opening of the 30/31 Grill shell.

Does anyone have any photos of some radiator that is less than +/-$700 that will come close to fitting the opening of a 30/31 grill shell? Even a photo of a Ford tractor radiator or a Mustang radiator being used would let me see how they look installed. I could spend $700, but I'd rather spend less if some other radiator would be a reasonable fit.

FWIW.....I'll be running a full hood and fenders with a stock height grill shell.

*EDIT* After more research and searching it seems most of the radiator discussion I found was in specifically about t'28/'29 Model A radiator shells, and I believe they are shorter than a '30/'31 shell so I guess all of the talk of Mustang and even the tractor radiator is out the window. But, if anyone has a suggestion for a radiator that fills the opening of a '30/'31 radiator shell please let me know. It may still come down to a $700 Walker, Griffin or something similar, but at least I can hope.

    Thanks, in advance.

    Lynn
